North Korea says it needs weaponry to defend against US nuclear threat
The Telegraph ^ | 12 July 2012 | Aaron Clements-Hunt

North Korea has claimed that it needs atomic weaponry to defend itself from a constant threat of US nuclear attack and that Pyongyang would never give up its right to a "peaceful space programme".

Pak Ui-Chun, North Korea's foreign minister, told a crowd at the ASEAN forum that it was Washington's aim to "eliminate the political ideology and system our people have opted for".

Mr Pak said North Korea would use its "peaceful space programme" to "explore and utilise the outer space to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes".

Mr Pak justified his claims by describing a US and South Korean military live fire exercise in which a North Korean flag is said to have been used as a target. He called this a "clear demonstration of hostile intent".

These alarming announcements came on the same day that US, Japanese and South Korean officials held a meeting in which they discussed the state of relations with North Korea and China.

Following the statements from Mr Pak, the three nations warned that "any provocation by North Korea will be met with a resolute and coordinated response from the international community".

I would be afraid of our nuclear arsenal if I was an enemy of the United States.

Indeed, but unless you have a VAST land mass, which NoKo does NOT, you could not have enough nuclear weapons to avoid complete annihilation.

Face it.

The best way to avoid confrontation with the United States is to do business with it. The more business you do, the better off everybody is.

Unfortunately, totalitarian collectivists don’t get it. The only possible exception is China, and I believe that they are seeing things more and more our way. I’ve met Chinese folks at trade shows, and they are becoming quite Western in their dress, manners, conversation, and even aspirations.

West Germany, one of the fiscally strongest nations on earth, had all she could do to absorb East Germany,a country that was light years ahead of what North Korea is today..financially and culturally....when the Berlin Wall collapsed.

I'll bet every single South Korean secretly hopes NK never collapses.

I’m not talking about using them. But they can be used as a diplomatic tool to make the norks think twice about their nuclear program.

Another tool we can use is food. We should make it clear to the norks that we will cut off their food aid if they continue to seek nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

Stalinist collectivism does far more damage to land and people than a score of nuclear devices.

They are just pissed that the foreign aid hasn’t sent a barber to give their new leader a John Edwards haircut.
