Axelrod: “There’s this reign of terror going on in the Republican Party”
Hot Air.com ^ | July 13, 2012 | ED MORRISSEY

Posted on 07/13/2012 9:58:36 AM PDT by Kaslin

New tone? David Axelrod spoke with National Journal’s Beth Reinhard in a phone interview, excerpts of which were posted a few minutes ago. In the interview, Axelrod decried the “politics of obstruction” — and then compared Republicans to Robespierre:

NJ President Obama has been vague about what he would accomplish in his second term.

AXELROD The president believes you build a strong, sustainable economy by building a strong, viable growing middle class. You have to continue to upgrade our educational system and improve access to higher education and technical training. We have to invest in research and development and the kinds of things that will create high-end, advanced manufacturing jobs. We have to continue to open up markets all over the world for American products. We need to continue with an all-of-the-above energy policy and really push for the development of all sources of energy. Immigration reform is an unfinished piece of business. But the principal thing we need to be pursuing is a very aggressive strategy of putting people back to work.

NJ How would the president accomplish those goals with a Republican-controlled House and possibly Senate?

AXELROD They have had a policy of obstruction from the day the president arrived. When the president is reelected, it will be a rejection of the politics of obstruction. There’s this reign of terror going on in the Republican Party.

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised to hear this kind of rhetoric from the flailing and failing Obama campaign. Axelrod and his cohorts have gotten outfought, outraised, and outclassed in two short months after having the field all to themselves for over a year. Yesterday, the campaign accused Mitt Romney of being a felon, which prompted a demand for an apology that will not be coming forthwith, almost assuredly.

Axelrod is not just a cheap demagogue, he’s also a cheap small-d democrat. Voters sent a Republican-controlled House to Washington specifically to force a change in policy, a message that Axelrod and Barack Obama ignored. The House, by the way, has passed budgets and more than a dozen jobs bills. It’s the Democratic-controlled Senate that has been the obstruction, refusing to pass budgets so that conference committees can resolve issues, and ignoring the House jobs bills altogether. Obama has shown zero leadership on this issue, griping about Republican dissent while ignoring completely that his own party has yet to cast one single supporting vote in three tries on his own budget proposals, and won’t even attempt to hold a vote on Obama’s tax proposals.

The actual “reign of terror,” for the sake of those as historically illiterate as Axelrod, took place during the French Revolution, when it turned bloody. The revolutionaries became as despotic as the monarchy they deposed, executing thousands for dissent and purported betrayal of the revolution. It’s actually the opposite of what Republicans are doing in Congress by opposing Obama’s agenda and attempting to push forward their own. That’s as ignorant an analogy as one might see in American politics.

The real terror for Axelrod is that he’s about to lose an election, and his campaign still hasn’t figured out what its theme is yet. The strong stench of desperation is in the air, as well as the even more pungent stench of demagoguery. Axelrod should be ashamed, but won’t be.

I agree with Axelrod. Democrats are terrorized by any hint of restricting govt. spending and autocratic power.

Axelrod should be ashamed, but won’t be.

INSANE people rarely cultivate a sense of "shame."

INSANE people construct abysmally absurd "second realities," and then DEMAND that the rest of us go "live there."

Let's just hope there is still a sufficient number of American voters who are not themselves INSANE; and thus are not willing to entertain and deploy public policies that have never worked anywhere, at any time, in the whole history of mankind.

I guess we'll have to wait until November 6th to find out the answer to that question.

Thanks, dear Kaslin, for posting this.

This policy is in need of translation:

The president believes you build a strong, sustainable economy by building a strong, viable growing middle class.

Consisting entirely of overpaid bureaucrats.

You have to continue to upgrade our educational system and improve access to higher education and technical training.

Pay teachers' unions more money for a crappy product so that they can demand more money to fix said crappy product.

We have to invest in research and development and the kinds of things that will create high-end, advanced manufacturing jobs.

Pay off our fat cat campaign contributors to make technologies for export and production elsewhere.

We have to continue to open up markets all over the world for American products.

Protectionism.

We need to continue with an all-of-the-above energy policy and really push for the development of all sources of energy.

See above.

Immigration reform is an unfinished piece of business.

Import more Slave Party dependent voters.

But the principal thing we need to be pursuing is a very aggressive strategy of putting people back to work.

Make existing voters dependent upon us.

No kidding. The GOP has only been a speed bump to Obama’s high speed rush to socialism. Obama is the whacko bypassing Congress with Executive Orders.

Thomas Jefferson, in his "First Inaugural," outlined the constitutional principles and ideas which would guide his Administration. Then, he stated:

"These principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us and guided our steps through an age of revolution and reformation. The wisdom of our sages and the blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political faith, the text of civic instruction, the touchstone by which to try the services of those we trust; and should we wander from them in moments of error or of alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty, and safety."

In other words, Jefferson warns Americans that when the principles of their Constitution were violated, either through "error" or "alarm," through the "services of those we trust," then we should "hasten" to change direction and "regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty, and safety."

How else might that be done than by courageous "obstruction" of would-be tyrants who would "change" America's foundations from the ideas of "People-over-government" and liberty to the ideas of redistribution and government-over-people?

Based on Jefferson's warning, Axelrod's term, "politics of obstruction", may be the noblest compliment Congressional and Senatorial Republicans can receive.

Since when is it OK for the president to pick one class of citizen over another as his policy? He is supposed to govern all Americans equally but that doesn’t fit the template of this Commie metrosexual.

They [GOP] have had a policy of obstruction from the day the president arrived.

When the facts do not support you, obfuscate and LIE!

Queen Pelosi controlled the House from 2007 to 2011 (110th & 111th Sessions). For the 110th, the US Senate was 51 Dem.Caucus control and the 111th had Arlen Specter jump to give 60 Dem.Caucus until Scott Brown took Ted Kennedy's seat in 2010. Given the RINOs in the Senate, practically speaking, Obama walked into the roses until January of 2011.

Difficult to obstruct when you are the toe-jam under the steamroller. Obama's team is trying (VERY TRYING) to reconstruct Truman's run against a do-nothing Congress. Convincing to their base, for others with above room temp intelligence, not so much!

They SAY they’re going to throw more money at education. But the truth is they’re going to throw more money at teachers unions. This crap has been tried since 1964 and it hasn’t worked.

It is beyond me why the spineless GOP-e is willing to get into the gutter and use plain English hyperbole like the Dems constantly use, from Axelrod to Emanual to Pelosi.

I want to hear GOP-e leaders call out the other side as the communists and socialists they are. I want them to call them bald faced liars and not tiptoe around it.

Our side has nothing but wimps, except Joe Wilson who called the president a liar (but in an inappropriate venue), and Chris Christie.

{Axelprod} There’s this reign of terror going on in the Republican Party.

I could forgive Axelprod his rhetoric, if only he would be so good as to ascend the steps of the platform, before a vast crowd of Tea Partiers, to face an actual guillotine. Then I should happily indulge him, and be content with his brevity.

I look at that photo, and I see Bill Clinton leading Janet Reno, Ron Brown, Rahm Emanual, Lanny Davis, Harold Ickes, James Carville, Vernon Jordan, and a long list of others.

Never happened. Never will happen. Clinton let our missile guidance technology go to China via campaign donor. Nothing ever happened.

Nothing happened to the Clinton Mafia. Nothing will happen to the Obama Politburo. Don’t get your hopes up.
