If you recently heard President Obama would fork out up to $1000 of your utility bills - watch out. It's just a ploy to steal your personal information.
More than a thousand people have fallen for the scam across the Midwest, and Alliant Energy in Wisconsin says more nearly 100 payments went through before the company realized the routing numbers were bogus.
Scammers will call you or knock on your door asking for credit card information and your social security number. If the payment goes through, friends tell other friends to try it.
ComEd spokespeople say that should be the first sign that the promotion isn't real because programs that help people with their utility bills don't come to you - you have to apply.
If you fell for the scam, utility companies say you should call police and file a report, then cancel any credit cards or other information and run a credit check.
And don't forget to pay your utility bill the way you normally do, because the payment will be rejected.

She must have full service plus rent lots of movies to watch!
My DTV is never more than $105! But then I don’t have HBO, Showtime or Skinamax.
Not Obama Bucks LOL
I actually received an email from my electric company cautioning against falling for this scam.
