It was a publicity stunt...by Drudge and probably by Romney too. Keep everyone interested and talking about you. And WAY more people are interested in the “beauty contest” aspects (who will he choose, who can we talk about) than about the policy issues.
Given that Mitt is Mitt, and that he’s the only viable choice being served up (short of a coup at the GOP convention) to oust the dearly execrated Barack Obama, it makes some sense to see who posterity might be — this person will probably be heir apparent to the next GOP presidential candidacy. Beauty, schmeauty! What would (person X) look like in the Oval Office. The idea of Condi Rice makes me a bit uneasy. Even Mitt would be more competent.
