OCALA - Two men who attempted to hold up an Internet cafe were shot and injured by a patron of the business Friday night, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's officials said they got a call at 9:54 p.m. about an armed robbery at Palms Internet Cafe, 8444 SW State Road 200. When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw blood on the ground.
Patrons outside the business told them that two masked men - one armed with a baseball bat and the other with a handgun - had barged into the business. The robbers told the approximately 30 patrons to get on the floor and demanded money.
Officials said one of the patrons, Samuel Williams, withdrew his own handgun and shot at the robber with the gun, according to sheriff's officials.
Both robbers began running toward the front door, and the patron fired several more shots as they fled.
The two men got into a car parked nearby and left.
Not long afterward, deputies got a call about two men at a Marion Oaks residence who were telling people there that they had been shot while at Scott Carrigan Baseball Park on Southeast 17th Street in Ocala. Police Department officers went to the ball field but found no evidence of a shooting there, according to sheriff's officials.
The two men were transported - one by helicopter - to Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. The Sheriff's Office identified them as Davis G. Dawkins, 19, and Duwayne Henderson, also 19. Dawkins has a Dunnellon address. His alleged accomplice has an Ocala address, officials said.
Dawkins had a superficial wound in his left arm, while Henderson was shot in the lower back near his buttocks.

He has a brother named DuWop.
“...the plan was to “barge in, get the money and leave.” He said “he never expected anyone to be armed.”
“The gun was broken and rusty and wasn’t loaded. Nobody was going to get hurt,” he said, standing with crutches....”
-sounds like he’s got reasons for justifying not being shot. He ain’t learned a dam*ed thing, he’s still entitled, somehow. What do you do with idiots like this?
As I understand the concept, the players willingly get fleeced in paying for playing nontraditional games for money, as opposed to playing for high points.
Virtual slot machines, virtual poker etc, and add in virtual sports, car racing and many forms of role playing video games.
I assume some of the players eventually get “real world cash” through the cafes somehow, but I am not certain of the exact mechanisms. But on the plus side, it does save carbon footprints by users not flying to Las Vegas, and the Feds don't get to tax it. /sarcasm.
re: “What do you do with idiots like this?”
Answer: “REAL” punishment e.g. 25 lashes per month for one year in a privately run prison. Prisoner eligible for suspension of sentence after first 3 months if he or his family make full restitution to their victim and literally get down on their hands and knees andd BEG for suspension of the sentence. If prisoner is stupid enough to get re-arrested, the sentence is doubled and he is ineligible for suspension in the second go round. Prisons would empty out in 5 years and crime would go to zero like Saudi Arabia where robberies such as this are unheard of.
Re #21: Now they’ll have another brother, Bend Over!
Will the dumb, #ing law now prosecute the patron? Maybe not, it is Florida, thought, it is teetering.
Trying to recollect an adage about law becoming the enemy of the ordinary, decent man...
