OBAMA DIDN'T DO THAT. Someone else made it happen.

Recently, President Obama has drawn more than his usual number of facepalms by uttering these words: " If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

Let us digress very briefly: It is true that we live in an interdependent system. Someone may have had a great teacher, true. And someone may have benefited from great infrastructure, true. Yet, one person creates a business, and the next falls into welfare dependency. That difference can only be explained with hard work, character, bravery, and intelligent choices.

That said, perhaps we are being too hard on President Obama. Perhaps he actually believes the words he uttered. After all, is this not his experience?

1) Did he not recieve a Nobel Prize with absolutely no action, including a proposal or an outline of his intent, from the Nobel Peace Prize committee? This is a GENUINE case of "Someone else did that", and Obama experienced it firsthand.

2) Before the killing of Osama Bin Laden, wasn't President Obama out on the golf course, somewhat oblivious to the events of that day? Didn't other men sacrifice life and limb to accomplish this act? However, didn't he immediately bask in the glow from a willing, sychophantic media, implying that he was solely responsible for this event? This is a ANOTHER GENUINE case of "Someone else did that", and Obama experienced it firsthand.

3) We still do not know how President Obama got accepted into Occidental, then Columbia University, and then Harvard University. We do not know what his grades were that permitted these college acceptances. How did Obama become the editor of the Harvard Law Review, when extensive digging uncovered only one article submited to the publication? Certainly all these events were genuine cases of "someone else did that", and he profited from that intervention.

So, it's clear to even a casual observer: Barack Obama has had many things happen FOR him, actions that were actually performed by other people, and he ended up getting the benefit. It only follows that he would assume that this is how the rest of the world operates. Therefore, when he sees a Steve Jobs or a Bill Gates, he remarks that these people did not create their business, someone else did it for them.

It's the only reality he can understand, because it is the only reality he has experienced firsthand.

Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

No, the government created the Internet so wired digital communications could continue during nuclear war. Then, nobody imagined it could be so profitable. Private business commandeered the standardized protocols to make money.

Facilitating business should not be confused with creating it. All the government did was declare TCP/IP and related basic technologies a standard, which is a reasonable exercise of governmental powers (declare standards (no, nonconforming standards should not be censored)).

Occurs to me: insofar as the Obama wishes to equate the totality of the Internet today with its embryonic origin of DARPANET, so should he equate the totality of a grown adult human with an embryonic baby.

Yeh...it was my shadow that worked 80 hours and put my 3 children through “private” colleges. And I’m a female who did NOT use the WBE route.

I have found that, in writing, grouping things by threes has a much more profound effect.

Father, Son, Holy Ghost.

Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness.

Loaf of bread, Jug of wine, and Thou.

Here’s the thing: obama never did anything on his own and now he has to convince the rest of us that neither did we. He already thinks it’s true. He was speaking from the heart. Once he believed this I’m sure he felt so much better about himself. That’s where he gets that smug, shit-eating grin from.

People who believe that someone else is responsible for their successes and failures become helpless and hopeless victims. It is as if Obama is taking back the hope and offering hopelessness, as if “yes I can” is now, “no I can’t”. People who feel that their conditions are determined by their own hard work and persistence are better off and don’t give up so easily.

No matter how one views the inception, design and implementation of the Internet through its entire history; the following is true:

Born of necessity; government and nonprofit institutions spend money and commandeer resources in order to use it.

Quite the opposite for businesses and entrepreneurs. They make money and create resources in their use of it.

He talked about ... “it is not because your were smart, there are a lot of smart people.” He mentioned, “it is not because you worked hard. There are a lot of hard workers.” He failed to mention ... RISK TAKERS. Yes, there are not a lot of risk takers. For a person to take their hard earned money, invest it, and not only work harder, but longer. That is how these people make it. You would be hard pressed to find a successful person who worked 40 hours a week and put little investment into that turns out to be successful at anything other than what they put their time and money into. It is amazing that when Obama is reading a teleprompter that is filled with words written FOR him you get a totally different picture then when he speaks from his heart and talks about the BS that he truly believes. Things that don’t work but he does not realize it because he NEVER put it into practice.

As much as I love to read anything you’ve written, on this I have to disagree.

I am not willing to give Obama the excuse of simple ignorance. He’s the President of the United States of America, for God’s sake!

No. This is a case of an amoral socialist idealogue trying to disqualify the accomplishments, experience, and judgement of true dyed-in-the-wool capitalists.

Nothing more; nothing less.

Could be. But when you look at his lack of self-created achievements, I could see how he’d miss the concepts behind true success.

The more I hear about this, the more I find myself thinking about something similar. The abusive husband. Think about it.

Imagine the battered wife at the door with her suitcase of meager belongings. The husband accosts her at the door and says,

“Honey, now don’t do that. Just think of all the things I’ve done for you. I built all these roads and bridges just for you. Where would you be without me?”

Think about it. And then listen to his quote again. You can just see him wearing the ‘wife beater’, can’t you?
