CBS News) More information about the firearms used in the deadly shooting in Aurora, Colo. during the midnight "Dark Knight Rises" screening has come to light. A law enforcement source close to the investigation told CBS News that all the guns were purchased within the last six months, which is considered a "short time to the crime."

The guns were all purchased legally between May 22 and July 6 at three Colorado gun stores.

James Holmes purchased a Smith and Wesson .233 high powered semi-automatic rifle at Gander Mountain gun store in Thornton, Colo, according to the law enforcement source. He also bought a .40 caliber Glock pistol at Gander Mountain gun store in Aurora, Colo. Another .40 caliber glock handgun and a Remington 870 shotgun were purchased at Bass Pro Shops in Denver, Colo.

I’m trying to figure out what the “news” is here. The only police record on this weirdo is a traffic ticket.

Thus if this is true, Fox News was mistaken? What to believe, what to believe?

“regulated law enforcement clothing?”

Didn’t know law enforcement had regulated clothing.

[ These are not all the wepons he had, police chief said he had an AR-15

So where did he buy all the SWAT gear (full body armor) and tear gas canister?

and where and when did he train in using the weapons and the tear gas equipment? You dont just go buy this stuff, load up, put on a gas mask, and go shoot 71 people in the dark ]

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it!

The last time I went to a gun show in Portland, OR (about 4 years ago, admittedly when I was back visiting) you could find body armor and tear gas canisters for sale. Gas masks, too. Not to mention online. It’s not hard to find. Here in the Czech Republic, I can walk into a well-stocked gun store and find body armor and tear gas for sale quite easily. I can even buy tear gas canisters at some locksmiths booths here in town.

As for the training, that’s a hell of a good question. Like you said, you just don’t load up, put on a gas mask and start shooting people in the dark. That requires some amount of prior training, I would speculate.

Maybe George Stephanopolous will ask that question of Baraq in the ABC debate.

Or maybe Salma Hayek will dump her billionaire husband and hook up with me......

heard an earlier report by a knowledgeable journalist that the shooter had a rifle that would hold 100 ‘bullets’. sigh

Lead-lined gloves, for example, also called “tactical gloves”. Some bullet proof gear. Supposedly “only” sold to law enforcement/military.

most movie houses aren't pitch black and it probably doesn't take a whole lot of skill to shoot people indiscriminately with semi automatic weapons in a crowded theater.

So, what do y’all think... purchase information from interrogation of the subject - or from the “non-existant” firearms purchase database?

He dropped out of school about that time.

I think he was probably a typical late-adolescent onset schizophrenic, but that said, I think he may have had OWS or Islamic connections that pushed him into real violence. Paranoid schizophrenics often see themselves as warriors for a cause, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see some outside influences in his life that gave him some way of justifying his insanity.

An AR-15 can be either 5.56 or .223. A 5.56 can use both 5.56 and .223, while a .223 AR-15 can use only .223. Something to due with the tolerances of the rifle.

I’ve been putting off buying a gun. I live in a right to carry state. Any suggestions? I’m thinking a 7mm Glock? And you’ll be damn sure I’ll learn how to use it.

Only ONE, just ONE solution. If enough people are armed this king of thing won’t happen.
