AURORA, Colo. – President Barack Obama dashed to Colorado on Sunday to meet with families of those gunned down in a movie theater and to hear from state and local officials about the shooting that left 12 people dead and dozens more injured.
Air Force One touched down at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora late Sunday afternoon for the president's hastily arranged 2 1/2-hour visit, which includes a private meeting with the victims' loved ones and perhaps a public comment about the shooting early Friday morning at a busy multiplex.

The President speaks and offers condolences during national times of mourning. I’ll wait to hear what he says before infering any other motives.
He and Laura visited Fort Hood Hospital for the wounded and dependents, the very next day (06 Nov 2009) after Hasan's murder spree. It should be noted that Crawford is only about an hour from Fort Hood by road and for Texas, that is "in the neighborhood". Still, it was done quietly and expresses a pattern in Bush'43s Presidency and afterwards, that of a gentleman. I like that.
I don’t think Obama, the Tea Party or the NRA had a thing to do with the timing on this one. Something has to be said and The President, even this one, is the guy to do it.
The logistics may be an issue, but these things are never convenient for anybody.
