Jason Alexander’s amazing gun rant ("ban assault weapons")
Salon.com ^ | Jason Alexander

Posted on 07/23/2012 9:57:19 AM PDT by Atlas Sneezed

What purpose does an AR-15 serve to a sportsman that a more standard hunting rifle does not serve? Let’s see – does it fire more rounds without reload? Yes. Does it fire farther and more accurately? Yes. Does it accommodate a more lethal payload? Yes. So basically, the purpose of an assault style weapon is to kill more stuff, more fully, faster and from further away. To achieve maximum lethality....

These people believe that the US government is eventually going to go street by street and enslave our citizens. Now as long as that is only happening to liberals, homosexuals and democrats – no problem. But if they try it with anyone else – it’s going to be arms-ageddon and these committed, God-fearing, brave souls will then use their military-esque arsenal to show the forces of our corrupt government whats-what. These people think they meet the definition of a “militia”. They don’t. At least not the constitutional one. And, if it should actually come to such an unthinkable reality, these people believe they would win. That’s why they have to “take our country back”. From who? From anyone who doesn’t think like them or see the world like them. They hold the only truth, everyone else is dangerous. Ever meet a terrorist that doesn’t believe that? Just asking.

Then there are the folks who write that if everyone in Colorado had a weapon, this maniac would have been stopped. Perhaps. But I do believe that the element of surprise, tear gas and head to toe kevlar protection might have given him a distinct edge. Not only that, but a crowd of people firing away in a chaotic arena without training or planning – I tend to think that scenario could produce even more victims....

I fully support 2nd Amendment rights. But playing Devil's Advocate for a moment, critics will seize on the perp's 100-round magazine for the AR to support their gun-grab argument

A Marksman doesn't need a 100 round spray and pray magazine.

But there is no reason a citizen shouldn't be able to buy one.

Remember: "shall not be infringed".

And Not All Of Them Work For The Government

But a good number of them do.

I saw a picture of the AR he used posted here earlier.

It didn’t have a drum magazine. Looked like a typical 30 round to me. I think some Lib “Journalist” not using the brains God gave him, made it up for dramatic effect.

If the patrons of the theater had been armed, the most likely scenario is not a hail of gunfire from them. The most likely scenario is that the shooter wouldn't have tried this in the first place.

There are 100 round magazines available for rifles other than the AR15, but I would personally not use a magazine over 30 rounds. If I wanted dependability probably 20 rounds or less. Because of the weight, 10 rounds is good in a .308.

“I was counting the two immediate enemy that would have to carry him. If you include medics and other medical and support personnel, yeah, I can see 7 or more........either way, the enemy is diminished in effectiveness.......”

One of the defenses we have developed quite well is that we have made it extremely expensive to go to war against us. It is out of reach of most countries GDPs. This is a good example.

As usual a hollywood whatever talking out his ass.
Mr Alexander please read the United States Constitution. You know the law of the land. Nowhere in the 2nd Amendment does it address hunting or sport shooting. Remember these people had just fought a war with their Government. The 2nd Amendment was put in place to insure the citizens would always have the means to protect the 1st Amendment.
If you are ignorant on the subject then it is probably better to keep you mouth shut..........

Well, that’s just bullshit.
The M-16, and every other rifle in military service, was designed to KILL. Period.

The 5.56mm round is a smaller, faster round than the .308/7.62mm “main battle rifle” cartridge it replaced, but there was NEVER any intention to just “wound” the enemy.

It may not do the job as well as other rounds, but that’s a defect, not a feature.

Laz, if I can call you that, you are so correct! I would like to join in as you and others have said New York, Chicago, Detroit and Los Angles are shining examples of “No Gun Zones”.
One example on your thought/Post, below.

Julio González (born October 10, 1954 is a Cuban-born warehouse worker and arsonist responsible for the Happy Land Fire that killed 87 people in the Bronx, New York City, on March 25, 1990. It is one of the largest mass murders in United States history.

I have an AR-15 and I have not hunted with it except to kill coyotes out on my farm that have been killing calves and chickens. What I enjoy about the rifle is going to the rifle range and hitting my target at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 yards. Now I grant that I had this rifle built to very small tolerances, specifically for the accuracy. It is the joy of shooting that I bought that particular rifle. I have spoken to my gunsmith about building a 338 mag for long range shooting and hunting. I have seen his rifle hit a 2 inch target at 1200 yards. When he told me his rifle would do that consistently, I did not believe. I saw the rifle being used and it was true. These are amazing firearms, and very fun to shoot. This is one pursuit of happiness.

Jason Alexander is a good, perhaps even great, actor. I love his comedy. However, I’d advise him to stick with what he knows, because as the old Chinese proverb states, “Better to keep your mouth closed and have others believe you to be a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.” You see, the 2nd Amendment has nothing whatsoever to do with hunting or sport, and everything to do with preserving our republic against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The people of this country ARE the militia of the 2nd Amendment, and it is the presence of some 250 million firearms that prevents any government - including our own - from attempting to impose a tyranny.

Jason, I am quite sure that there is a law against murder in Colorado. Likewise, there are laws against threatening people with a weapon (let alone 4), there are laws against making bombs (including ones with non-lethal agents like tear gas) and I rather doubt that the shooter in this case had a legal right to even carry a firearm outside of his own home (except to/from a shooting range or gun store). Despite that, none of those laws stopped any crimes from being committed by this lunatic, nor saved anyone. Just as logical, no gun control law would have saved these people, either - because this guy was clearly capable of making bombs. Gun control only affects the otherwise law-abiding (which is to say, COMPLETELY INNOCENT PEOPLE), while it has exactly ZERO effect on those intent on committing crimes of one type or another. Why do you call on the rights of the innocent and decent people of this country to be destroyed because of the actions of a lunatic?

Maybe before writing this stupid screed, Jason, you should have considered that any serious attempt to control the roughly 250 million firearms would involve a MASSIVE denial of the most basic human right (that of self-protection), to say nothing of the destruction of at least the 4th and 5th Amendments. For “gun control” to work, you’d have to take away ALL of the firearms from 85-90 million people (good luck with that one, BTW), and make damned sure that no other guns were imported illegally (most likely by the drug gangs, which are “rumored” to have hundreds of pipelines into this country from multiple foreign sources), and that no one with the expertise decided to manufacture guns in their basement or garage (and there are literally hundreds of thousands with that capacity). Simply put, you are asking for no more and no less than the imposition of a massive totalitarian state...something that the 2nd Amendment is specifically designed to prevent. What you will get if you are allowed to make a serious attempt at gun control is a 2nd Civil War, one that would make the carnage of the first one look like 2 little kids having a fight in a sandbox.

Oh, and Jason, I’m on to your game: you want OTHERS to go around collecting the guns, because you lack the guts to try it yourself. Better to have some poor schmuck who HAS to work for $40K/year, who has no choice but to follow orders, go around busting down people’s doors and shooting them and their families to “get the guns” - better that than for you to put YOUR precious ass on the line, right? You COWARD!

Finally, Jason, as a fellow Jew from New Jersey, I ask that you consider the FACT that the genocide perpetrated against our people by the Nazis and their accomplices would have been utterly impossible without our brethren having first been disarmed. For more information regarding the key role of gun control in genocide, read this review of a book entitled “Lethal Laws: Gun Control is the Key to
Genocide” http://www.davekopel.com/2a/LawRev/lethal.htm Better yet, just get the book and read it, maybe you’ll learn something: http://www.amazon.com/Lethal-Laws-Gun-Control-Genocide/dp/0964230402/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1343059725&sr=1-1&keywords=lethal+laws

Now for some ancient Greek for you, Jason: Molon Labe, you moron!
