George Will and Jennifer Rubin Demolish Time's Joe Klein on Gun Control Laws

Time's Joe Klein on Sunday found out what it's like to actually have to debate conservatives rather than the liberal media members he normally appears with on political talk shows.

When he uttered the typical left-wing line on ABC's This Week about the need for more gun control in the wake of Friday's movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado, Klein got a much-needed education from George Will and the Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin (video follows with transcript and commentary):

GEORGE WILL: The killer in Aurora, Colorado, was very intelligent and farsighted and meticulous. I defy you to write a gun control law that would prevent someone like this with a long time horizon and great planning capability from getting the arms he wants. I just think this is a mistake.

A moment ago Joe made a statement, he gave us a theory, it's an empirical theory for which there is or is not evidence, which is that the globalization and coarsening of entertainment will cause or is causing -- I don't know what your point was -- things like this to happen more and more. These are testable hypothesis. Let's test them.

---------------------------cut------------------------

JENNIFER RUBIN, WASHINGTON POST: Listen, we can make all of the declarative statements we want. There is no shortage of empirical data in criminology. In fact, it's one of the most researched areas of social science. When we had the gun law, the assault ban weapon, there wasn't a decrease, when we let it expire, there wasn't an increase.

When the Washington Post representative acknowledges that the "assault" weapon ban accomplished nothing, the progressives have completely lost on this issue!

To make their case they will have to depart from reason byignoring mountains of empirical data and focus on the emotional plea.

Then again, that is their MO. It worked before the internet gave all the loose canons the ability to publicly call them on it. :-)

The case is being sealed, guns are blamed and terrorists excused. WHAT DOES HAVING EXPLOSIVES IN A BOOBYTRAP APPARTMENT HAVE TO DO WITH GUN CONTROL? These people are morons.

I smell a Bill Ayer mini-me. Holmes will be a professor and a presidential advisor.

As for a theater, it is a place of free speech, and people are dum not to defend it with their own self armament.

Same thing with Colleges.

Gun control in those places is asking for terrorists to attack. They are the first places that need assault rifle patrols, imo, if you ask me.

LAst but not least, why did the kid have body armor? OBVIOULSY HE WANTED TO AVOID GETTING KILLED BY AN EVENTUAL CONCEAL CARRY HERO!!! And then he surrendered to police.

Why would he surrender to cops but not to a legal firearm owner? UH!?

He was after us. ALL THE MORE REASON to stick to our guns.

I have seen conflicting reports on the “body armor”.

I have seen reports saying it was only a nylon tac vest.

Have others seen this as well?

With all acknowledgement of Will’s reasoned argument aside, I, for one, do not need this token faux-conservative’s two cents on a Second Amendment issue.

In my book, he has no conservative credentials - just playing the ‘loyal opposition’ of a DC Beltway so-called conservative pundit. At the very first opportunity, Will would cave like a pup tent at a more modest proposal of gun control that is “reasonable, across-the-aisle, and balanced.”

Do not EVER trust this man or what he says.

Simple questions to the wine and cheese eating surrender monkeys on the left.

How many laws did the CO shooter already violate?
Why didn’t the current laws against murder stop this?

If this guy wanted to do damage on this scale without a gun, propane, gasoline could easily have been more deadly if it had been placed at the exits.

I guarantee you 100% when you ban guns you leave honest people helpless.

Had I been on the plane over PA on 9/11, knowing what they knew, and had not been striped of my right to protect myself from our government, I would have emptied my gun into those sand monkey’s heads in a heart beat.

The outcome might have been much more positive had many passengers been armed on 9/11. The plane imploding due to a bullet hole in the fuselage has been disproved so many times it is amazing it survives but then again there is no limit to the ignorance of a liberal.

When we had the gun law, the assault ban weapon,

When will this fallacy be debunked

There never was one

Manufacturers made cosmetic changes to the semi automatic rifles and you could get them over the counter

From the article:

KLEIN: I'm just shocked to hear a conservative like George Will making an all or nothing argument on this issue. People died from getting the polio vaccine, that doesn't mean that we should do away with it.

Or you could say something like: People died from getting the polio vaccine the free exercise of the right to keep and bear arms, that doesn't mean that we should do away with it.
