I agree with you completely.

PS. I am not an PSU alumni, either, but as a former taxpayer in PA, it ticks me off that the people of PA have to pay this extortion to the NCAA BEFORE the civil suits are settled. Also, this is corruption beyond the football program, up to the highest levels of the institution. Between this and the hockey-stick graph, perhaps the people of PA would be best served by getting rid of PSU completely.

I think it would be cool if all of the other university’s football players would be required to take the academic course load that the service academies require of their athletes.

No way. The Catholic Church was way worse and they are still around. Penn State should have fired the people involved....the police should have charged them and then go on. This is insane that this poor football team is getting screws when the Cathlic Church got NOTHING!!!!!

I would even go as far to suggest that Penn State change its’ name to something like Happy Valley University, or The University of Central Pennsylvania, or somesuch.

Imposing huge fines on a State University means they will just be coming after me, the taxpayer, to make up the difference.

The people of Pennsylvania don't mind paying taxes, in fact they wish they could pay MORE! How else do you explain why they voted for 0bama in '08 after he and Idiot Joe Biden declared they would kill the coal industry, and last I heard, they still support the kenyan.

As for Pedophile State, it should've received the Death Penalty, but I'm sure politics and probably a few kickbacks saved it. If the Big Ten had any integrity, they would expel them.

Too bad the “Great” Joe PA didnt live a little while longer to see all his wonderful records flushed down the toilet. He would probably crawl in after them!

BS. That is not an insult but a fact!!!! The Catholic Church did more damage to young boys then SANDUSKY could ever dream of. The Catholic Church got away with murder compare to this foot ball team who had ZERO to do with it.

What NCAA bylaw’s cover sex crimes? Why is the NCAA even involved?

Have you read the NCAA bylaws? Go do it, focus on the many general bylaws on ethical conduct by members, and get back to us. The NCAA is a private institution. Penn State's actions went beyond the pale of anything done by any other of its private members.

And I've had enough of this 'the players, the community, etc.' had nothing to do with what went on' nonsense.

If you've paid any attention to NCAA sports for the last fifty years, you know that schools are punished with loss of scholarships, television bans, loss of bowls, vacating wins, and other penalties on a frequent basis for the actions of one or two individuals who frequently have already left the school. That's the way it's done. If any school deserves a 'gee, it shouldn't apply to us' exception, Penn State's not the school. Building the environment where this could happen involved all of Happy Valley - and environment where The Second Mile could fail to take action against Sandusky, where witnesses could be bullied out of schools, where students would riot.

There's a reason Penn State signed a consent to this punishment: they know it could have, and probably should have been, a lot worse.

The username's familiar. Did you perhaps post on here that JoePa didn't know about 1998? That JoePa reported this to the "head of the university police?" All of those other assertions that turned out to be false?

The good news is all of the players are free to transfer.

Penn State will quickly become walk-on U.

20 years ago Penn State and Notre Dame were my favorite schools. Largely because of Joe Pa and Lue Holts. Joe Pa should have retired years ago, he was well into his 70’s when all this was happening. 80 something when the story broke, to old and weak to defend himself. Barely able to walk even. He stayed to long and the liberals, homos and cowards took over University. Now I detest Penn State for what that once great university has allowed itself to become. Shame on all of them.

No death penalty, but they used their NCAA certified time machine to change game scores...

Which now leaves them with a 175 game losing streak!

Remember the stories about how The Second Mile functioned as the hub of a large child prostitution ring, where access to kids was granted in return for large donations to the University? I wonder the fact that wasn’t mentioned as part of the Freeh Report was a reason that Penn State was ok with the report, because indeed if that were true, it would really have blown things sky high.

I’m surprised the NCAA got Penn State to stipulate to these sanctions, so I don’t really understand why people think it’s not enough.

Correct. Every other university violating, no matter how egregiously, NCAA rules will forever get to say, “At least we didn’t have our defensive coordinator cornholing 10 year olds in the shower! You’re going to hit us harder than you hit Pedophile State?!?”

Emmert - ex University of Washington President and squishy insider - has with this blown up the NCAA.

I’m telling you the penduluum is going to swing back and integrity will once again become coin of the realm. They should have said, “No NCAA football for three years” and then the rest of the sanctions.

Nullifying the victories doesn’t mean anything. Talk about an idiotic sanction. “Well, we won the national championship that year, even though the NCAA says we didn’t.”

They should have tacked a zero on to the $60MM figure, since it amounts to only one year’s revenue from football, and the crimes go back over ten years.

Both SMU and the University of Washington got stiffer penalties from the NCAA.

While doling out a punishment, all they are affecting are people who had no part in the original crime. They are all gone and will not be affected by these punishments.
Finally. Did the team do this? The students? The alums? This is like prosecuting other people walking down the sidewalk for not knowing a killer was in their midst. The punishment should only be directed at the guilty. And the NCAA, the guardians of ethics in college sports, FAILED TO GUARD and therefore are far more complicit in this crime than the students, the team and the alums. But the NCAA is the "prosecutor"? This is a sad joke. (And I'm an I.U. Alum.)

That would be a good start. Then make four years of military service mandatory before signing a pro contract.

I know there are a lot of reasons that it will never happen, but in a perfect world ..... no graduation? ...no military service? .... no solid academic load? Sorry, you’re not up to NFL (NBA MLB etc) standards.

All these problems in college football and basketball exist because the NFL and NBA have been sucking off the taxpayer teat to provide them with a minor-league farm system. You never hear about scandals involving college baseball programs because while some players go to college and then to the major leagues, it is not required that a good player attend college like the NFL requires. A good baseball player who is good has the option of going into the minor leagues right after high school.

With a privately or league financed minor league system most of the good football and basketball players would play minor league for pay. This would relieve some of the pressure on universities to put aside all academic and ethical standards in the name of football or basketball.

Let’s see. SMU gets the death penalty for the usual crap, but Penn State doesn’t? Bull*hit! they should have been banned for 5 years, demoted to Division 3A -for good, and denied ANY scholarships for eternity.
