Solyndra Republicans, Why the GOP Cannot be Trusted
Right Wing News ^ | Friday, July 20 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 07/23/2012 11:58:10 AM PDT by xzins

Politico reported that GOP leadership in the House beat back an attempt by recalcitrant members of their own caucus to continue to quietly support the sort of pork spending that gave us Solyndra in the first place.

House GOP leadership has been beating the Democrats up for the pure wasteful spending that was Democrat support for the now bankrupted “green energy” company Solyndra. But a few Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee wanted to buck the anti-bailout theme and quietly keep the spending program that allowed the “loans” to Solyndra to continue.

According to Politico:

At least three House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans had publicly expressed reservations about the GOP-backed “No More Solyndras Act” during the past week. They griped, to varying degrees, about a provision that would effectively end the loan guarantee program — and argued that it needs to be reformed, not killed.

As Politico noted, the Wall Street Journal also lambasted these Republicans calling them the “Solyndra Wing” of the GOP and chiding them for loving corporate welfare.

The three Republicans hoping to re-open the corporate welfare spigot are Joe Barton (Texas), Michael Burgess (Texas), and Phil Gingrey (Georgia).

So, as we can see here, there is a large and powerful block of the GOP that is fully in support of the sort of disgusting, un-American waste, and pork barrel spending that results in such programs as the “loan guarantees” that sent millions of U.S. tax dollars into the black hole that is Solyndra — a company that will never pay back the so-called loans afforded it by Democrats wishing to help Obama campaign contributors.

This is why the GOP cannot be fully trusted. The party is only nominally the fiscally responsible party, but not a party that is wholly dedicated to that goal. Certainly there are no Democrats that are for fiscal responsibility, but unfortunately there are too many Republicans that are just like the socialist, big-government, nanny state-loving Democrats.

This is why such activists as Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform are necessary. This is also one of the reasons why the Tea Party sprang to life like it did. If the GOP was really the party of fiscal responsibility the Tea Party would never have arisen in the first place. The Tea Party arose in response not just to Democrats and Obama but to failed Republicans, too!

Much as we are forced to support the GOP because the alternative is disaster, we also have to remember the disasters just under the skin of the Republican Party, those waiting to burst free if we stop holding them to account. Sadly, conservatives are only in the GOP by default, not choice.

It’s a shame that we have a socialist party in the Democrats and a party that would love to join them if only we’d look the other way in the Republicans.

It is also why the Tea Party is the only force still out there in American politics trying to keep the fires of liberty burning and holding our government accountable to the Constitution.

Isn’t Grover Norquist an Islamist?

THREE House members are not a “large, powerful bloc”. But since Politico is the main source for this story, not too much weight can be put on it.

Granted, the GOP spends our money with ease.

I don’t see why the Tea Party and Sarah have endorsed Cruz either.

Reformed my butt, just bring back the R & D tax credits. Risk is assumed by the company, as it should. Tax credits help during, then when successful it's called revenues and profits.

He’s a Christian, whether cultural or by membership, but he’s lobbied on behalf of some Muslim organizations. I think he also joined GOProud’s board.

Despite my disagreement with Mr. Norquist, he is simply a matter of a small comment in a larger article, the subject of which is basically “spendthrift Republicans.”

I suspect the George W. Bush years when republicans had both Senate and House prove to any unbiased observer that the GOP establishment loves to borrow and spend.

That is as opposed, I suppose, to Democrats, who love to TAX, borrow and spend.

Texas is it... and Georgia.?.. Well we know already Newt is a whore..... But even then Newt would be far better than Zero-Obammy..

Newt might be able to be bought for a couple of billion dollars to clean America up.. if approached correctly..
It would be worth it.. in spades... <<- can I say that?..

These critters need to be voted out.. a Tea Party “alert” might be in order..

The GOP is a borrow and spend enterprise. Phony deals to cut spending have proven that to me.

There's only one part this guy got wrong and only one crucial thing he forgot to mention:

What he got wrong: Much as we are forced to support the GOP because the alternative is disaster ....

No one is "forcing" freedom-loving, Constitution-respecting Americans to support the GOP. They are doing it voluntarily and against their better judgment because someone -- the MSM and conservative pundits -- is scaring the hell out of them and whipping them into a hysterical state of fear of a Democrat president now held in such contempt that there's little chance he could get even 50 percent of the vote.

What he forgot to mention: ALL of the things he points out in his story would become worse if Green-progressive Romney wins, and ten times worse if Romney wins with a "popular mandate" majority.

The best we can hope for is a plurality for whichever guy wins. That's why I'm voting third party: every third party vote will reduce the popular mandate of the next president, and third-party votes are our only hope for a plurality. The last president who won on a plurality ended up being creamed by a Republican Revolution, and then impeached.

When something stinks, it's nature's way of telling you it's either rotten or toxic. Romney stinks FOR A REASON. Heed your nose. To quote a sage American beagle, "the eye can be deceived but the nose knows."

You can vote for rotten and toxic, or you can vote for weakening the next statist president we're guaranteed to have either way.

Joe Barton has been there 28 years, is rolling in money and in a solid red, Joe Barton Friendly district. When he might have a credible opponent, he twisted arms to cut him out of his district where the opponent was a prominent mayor and businessman. He has millions and aligns all the local electeds with his million and donations to their campaigns. Every one of them is afraid to go against him. This is how people like McCain, Hatch, stay in office for years.

You never know how someone will be once in office for a while.

I don’t think *any* politician can be trusted - two party, tea party, third party or otherwise.

Eternal vigilance and all that.

I got an email from Dewhurst’s campaign. It said he would “work with the other side and compromise”! Where have we heard that line before?

Oh yeah, McCain!

I have already voted for Cruz once, I plan on doing it again tomorrow and hope to do it again in Nov.

I voted for Cruz also
Have you heard him say how he stands on amnesty?

I think Dewhurst is for it in some form.

Anyone who trusts any politician, from either party, is a fool....unless the politician is a committed Christian.
