The man accused of going on a deadly shooting rampage at the opening of the new Batman movie appeared Monday in court for the first time.

James Holmes, 24, who is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others inside a packed movie theater in Aurora, Colo., will be formally charged next Monday. He is being held without bond.

Holmes, who did not speak, sat in a maroon jailhouse jumpsuit as the judge advised him of the case. He appeared wide-eyed with bright reddish orange hair.

Holmes has been held in solitary confinement at an Arapahoe County detention facility since Friday. He is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, and he could also face additional counts of aggravated assault and weapons violations.

This man should be hung publicly.

A Death Penalty sentence will assure him of living for at least 20 more years, while tax dollars are squandered on the endless Appeals that the Death Penalty always brings.

Immediate Execution should be swift, precise, and final in cases like this. We could free up a lot of Prison space by EXECUTING those on Death Row, and stop wasting time on frivolous Appeals.

I say let him escape. Just be sure to let folks know first...

I doubt he’d make it two blocks. Sure would save us a boatload of money. And you know, it would be cathartic.

Colo has the death penalty.
They’ve executed one person since 76.

It will cost the state 10s of millions to process him over the next decade.

Very unfortunate he didn’t get taken down at the site.

"Immediate Execution should be swift..."

Didn't we used to believe that 'Justice delayed is injustice' back in this nation's not-too-long-ago history?

If he gets to play the Joker, can we play Pol Pot?

I predict he will plead insanity and will not face the death penalty.

We're still paying to feed, cloth, medicate and entertain Charles Manson in CA - meanwhile other nuts keep beating the drums to 'set him free!'

This is not justice.

He doesn’t appear to be insane to me. He looks like a calculating serial killer.

Simply evil.

I think it should be done quietly, with no fanfare...like an animal.

I really think this "SUSPECT" MURDERER was putting on the best insane, nut job, crazy look he could muster up.

Maybe some one should look to see if this MURDERER looked up the penalty of committing this MURDEROUS CRIME!

I personally think if he was as GENIUS as the media puts him out to be that he had to look into this.

He’s almost an example of reverse evolution. In his high school pic he looks like an ordinary, clean cut high school student. Come college he’s beginning to look scruffy with a minimal beard and weird smirk. Then come the dating site pic and this one, all of them showing a person who appears to be going downhill faster and faster.

I'm not a Dr. but those eyes make me wonder if he has Grave's disease. There is some psychology involved with it.

I am just a layman, but from what I have read in young men this kind of progression (regression)often marks the onset of schizophrenia, which in males often manifests in the late teens and early 20s. From all accounts he had a pretty normal childhood and puberty, but something must have triggered the psychosis, if that is what it is, I don't know.

Legally insane, no chance.

Psychotic? Maybe. Consider that sleep deprivation can also cause and mimic psychosis. I reckon he did not sleep the night before the attack at the very least, what with all the anticipation and making sure he didn't forget to lay any traps or pack rounds. So, let's say he had not slept since Tuesday night. By the following Monday morning the lack of sleep, on top of all the intervening affairs and drug abuse, this could conceivably induce psychosis, and not necessarily of organic disease in nature. Or they could have him loaded on anti-psychotics which would give him this whack appearance.

Lastly, he might be a fine ac-tor.
