Youths who had their house party broken up by the cops quickly moved the rager to a nearby Jacksonville Walmart on Saturday night, creating a veritable flash mob, according to News 4JAX.
A police report obtained by the station said the group of about 300 destroyed an electronic anti-shop lifting security scanner that costs about $1,500.
The Florida Times Union reports that the youngsters also allegedly stole snacks and sodas from the store and that gunshots were fired into the air outside the Walmart, but no one was injured.

How gratifying that they were able to use their free government-issue cell phones for such a high calling.
I've posted before that the appropriate punishment for flash-mob participants is a court-ordered ban on phone privileges, in addition to any other charges. If they have taxpayer funded Obama-phones, so much the better.

This event happened last week.
One comment I read had me laughing on and off all day (to paraphrase):
“Imagine...you go shopping late to avoid the crowd...one minute you are pricing the squeezy mayo...next minute you look up and it’s Zulu Dawn”.
I searched but didn’t find anything.

In a totally unrelated story, Jacksonville, FL, has a serious problem with "food deserts" (shown in red, I think), where there is no local access to grocery stores larger than a 7-11 convenience mart. Why would the businessmen of Florida miss out on such an obvious opportunity to profit from opening stores in poor neighborhoods?

You can definitely make that assumption. I wonder how many of these petty thugs are capable of understanding how much their "free" chips and soda cost all the families in the neighborhood, and in other neighborhoods that look similar when writing a business plan? If Walmart stays, their neighbors pay more for everything to cover "shrinkage", i.e. theft not a Seinfeld episode, and if Walmart leaves, they are stuck with no grocery stores at all. When petty hoodlums spread the wealth around, everyone loses.
