Discharged Tea Party Marine says military publication made example of him

Two months after former Marine sergeant Gary Stein was discharged from the service for founding the Armed Forces Tea Party Facebook group and making strong political statements, he thought the flurry of publicity surrounding his disgrace was finally over. Not so, he discovered last week.

Stein was briefly the unexpected star of a public affairs article informing troops how they could stay “social media savvy during the election season,” appearing in the lead sentence as an example of what not to do.

“Basically what it says is, ‘don’t be Gary Stein,’” he told Human Events. “It just went through everything that you cannot do as a service member. It was basically a scare tactic.”

Stein acknowledges that his Facebook comments, particularly negative ones directed at President Barack Obama, were sometimes overly forceful, though groups including the American Civil Liberties Union and U.S. Justice Foundation maintain he was still within his First Amendment rights to make them. But he said it hurt that the Corps would direct more public attention to the incident.

A Tea Party Marine = Bad Thing.

A Homo in uniform marching at a gay pride parade = Good Thing.

We are so FUBAR in our Country. So very FUBAR.

Stein made a grave error in judgement. If had decided to march in uniform in a gay parade, he would have been promoted instead of discharged.

Would normally put a [/s] here, but sadly its true.

This happens the same week the navy made an exception to their policy and allowed uniformed homo members to march in a gay parade.

This administration has succeeded in politicizing the military, something it had resisted for over 200 years.

It just goes to show that “Anything” can and will be used against those who stand against this administration especially if you happen to be a military member or an employee of the Federal government.

Although I believe that in the long run this will be good. It reminds the people of the United States that the Feds as a whole only have the well-being of the Feds at heart. The rest of us are just here to be milked of our treasure and our blood as needed.

And by “Feds” I mean the political class that runs the government both the elected ones and the unelected ones.

OK and I ask the all Active Duty/Vets, familty members, relatives and friends to pay attention to what this Fascist Neo-Commie POS has done to our Military and remember that come Nov 6th.

Do we realllllly want this bottom-feeding, Hate-America/Military SCUMBAG as our "Commander in Chief" for another 4 years?

How about 50,000 members of the military make the same “political statements”?

Would 50,000 military members get kicked out?

That’s complete bullshiite and you know it. This Marine was a Sgt, an NCO. In the Marine Corps we put a ton of responibilty on our NCO’s. The Marine Corps is about small unit leadership. This Sgt knew the rules on political statements while representing himself as a Marine. He chose not to follow those rules and paid the price for it. He was held accountable for his actions. He was also ordered to cease his activities. He refused the order. He was given the chance to rectify his behavior and failed to do so. This Marine did not deserve to be a Sgt in my beloved Marine Corps. Period. End of story. He failed as a leader of Marines and paid the price.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I was a Sgt. in the Marine Corps as well and for good reason there are restrictions on political activity when representing the Armed Forces.

The military does grant sufficient latitude for individual service members to vote according to their political beliefs, attend political activities (only out of uniform) and even display a bumper sticker of a candidate on their personal vehicle. But you just cannot have members of the military identifying themselves as such and engaging in partisan political activity and defying orders such as what this individual was doing, while on active duty.

Are you giving up?

If so, Freep-mail me, and well send a team to pick up your ammo and weapons.

I think you misinterpreted my post. It’s not that I’m defending the Sgt for engaging in political activity while on active duty. It’s that I’m lamenting that PC political activities (like marching in LBGT parades in uniform) is condoned. And, make no mistake, marching in a LBGT parade IS making a political statement.

Apparently some political activities are more equal than others.

Doesn’t matter. The Craps always do their best to make sure ballots from the military don’t count. See Bush v. Gore, 2000.
