A hate crime investigation is under way in D.C. after a gay couple’s night out ended in a brutal beating.
Michael Hall Jr. has a broken jaw and a fractured cheekbone following the attack Sunday morning. The 29-year-old yoga instructor was operated on at Howard University Hospital Monday.
His parents, Mike and Gail Hall of Colonial Beach, Va., worried for their son’s safety when he moved to the District nine years ago.
“Every morning, get up and turn Channel 4 news on and see if he was alive or not, who got killed or stabbed,” Mike Hall said.
“My biggest nightmare was that this would happen eventually,” Gail Hall said.
The Halls got the phone call they always feared Sunday morning.
Michael Hall Jr. and his boyfriend, Michael Roike, were heading home from a restaurant just after midnight Sunday when they were ambushed by about five teenagers in the Eckington section of northeast D.C.
“Four or five kids just came out of nowhere without any warning,” Roike said. “We didn’t think it was a robbery because they didn’t immediately ask for something. They just came out swinging and hitting.”
A woman and her boyfriend went to their aid and managed to get them to safety.

From the headline, I thought a gay couple attacked a yoga instructor.
Racist crime or sexual orientation crime? Or both?
This plus the supposed “hate crime” attack on a homosexual woman which is also suspicious.
Did they redecorate his interior?

Well since the victims are white it won’t be a racial hate crime even if the suspects do turn out to be a race other then white.
And, after a month...we’re stuck at 30%
Depends on who the attackers are. If the attackers are not of European descent, the answer to your question is "it was not a hate crime."
What were two white guys doing walking around at midnight in that part of town? I would hesitate to drive through it at night.

It wasn’t likely a hate crime. That’s nothing more than a typical evening in DC.
So many jokes and smart arse comments...so hard to choose.

Same as when I was robbed at gunpoint and called nigger by two hispanic “yutes”. Police took my original statement and never followed up on the case. In fact, they pulled their DWI taskforce out of my neighborhood for 6 months because the territory was “dangerous”. First cop I flagged down got the hell out of there. The next one said maybe he was “investigating” in the opposite directions of where I was robbed and the highway where the car escaped to.
$1 will get you $5 if the perps weren’t Obama’s sons.
So what happens when a “special” class with extra Constitutional protections than the those with fewer special protections, attacks another “special” class with extra Constitutional protection? They should fund whole new courts just to deal with this kind of case law.
That’s a bet I won’t be taking.
