Alderman to Chick-fil-A: No deal

Moreno tries to block restaurant that opposes gay marriage from opening in his Northwest Side ward

A Chicago alderman wants to kill Chick-fil-A's plans to build a restaurant in his increasingly trendy Northwest Side ward because the fast-food chain's top executive vocally opposes gay marriage.

Ald.Proco "Joe" Moreno announced this week that he will block Chick-fil-A's effort to build its second Chicago store, which would be in the Logan Square neighborhood, following company President Dan Cathy's remarks last week that he was "guilty as charged" for supporting the biblical definition of marriage as between a man and woman.

This is also a prime example of how Obama’s “You didn’t build that!” is so wrong. Here a company is trying grow its business, and the local government is erecting obstacles to its expansion.

Yes, they are power control freaks.

Look at what else they have planned:

Dan Cathy should shake the dust from his sandals as he leaves Chicago, as a testament against them....

(Now THAT would be a YouTube moment!)

What happened to free speech and why is it assumed that if you are pro-traditional marriage you are anti-gay? And why are gays getting preferential treatment? If anyone is showing a lack of tolerance, it’s the pro-gay group which, unfortunately, includes the media. I’m getting too old - the America I knew is gone and I barely recognize this country any more. No wonder we have lost God’s blessing!

The zoning in the county of Arizona where I live is utterly arbitrary. You apply for a permit, and the rules depend on who is sitting in front of you on a given day & how they feel. They make no pretense of obeying the written rules. They will either tell you it is their “unwritten policy” and dare you to challenge them in court (where the lawyer fees would bankrupt you while they sit behind lawyers your tax money provides) or insist they need a new survey and “engineering drawings” that would cost thousands for your $500 piece of work.

And some of them sit around staring at aerial photos, trying to find someone doing something they didn’t get a permit for.

Isn’t it great to live in a free country?

I have never eaten at Chick-fil-A but I will cure that fault before the end of the week. Might make it a weekly visit.

Great, for the so called conservatives that chanted. What happens behind closed doors, has no effect on them.

Someone will inevitably call me a racist for saying this but a privately owned business should have every right to serve anyone for any reason they damn well please. The market will decide whether a racist or otherwise bigoted businessman survives.

In this case the restaurant isn’t even doing that. This is based on an opinion held by the owner. I have a gay fiend from childhood who posted last night on facebook that he goes to Chick-fil-A at least once a week and intends to continue.

We need a place to start listing places where we would like to see a Chick-fil-A restaurant.

I can only find one location in Michigan and that’s north of Detroit and I’m not going there. Bring one to Jackson Michigan and I’ll check it out.

"Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values," (Emanuel) said in a statement when asked about Moreno's decision.

Chicago values = Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out.

Ald.Proco "Joe" Moreno is using government power to punish the owner of a legally operating business for what, a thought crime?

Ald.Proco "Joe" Moreno is the one committing a hate crime, and using the power of government to do it.

Ald.Proco "Joe" Moreno is just a pissy little man who uses his responsibility to bully people who don't think "correctly" enough.

Ald.Proco "Joe" Moreno - Loser.

I remember that one. Along with,"How can their homosexual marriage threathen my hetrosexual marriage"?

Kinda like, "What you don't know, won't hurt you". But the truth of the matter is, what one doesn't know can, will, and usually does, hurt you very, very bad.

I don’t remember the name of the group but it is pro traditional marrriage has called for today to be support tradional marriage by eating at Chick fil a tonight.

Huckabee's "Buycott" is for Wed. Aug. 1st. - (Go both days).

I can't help out a lot, as the only Chick Fil A any where near is 12 miles across the city and plus the fact that I utterly detest chicken.

“I have never eaten at Chick-fil-A but I will cure that fault before the end of the week. Might make it a weekly visit.”

I’m planning to make my first visit to a Chick-fil-A this Friday. I will be driving past one on my way up north.

There’s also a store opening in my neck of the woods in mid-August. Might have to give them my business as well.

I’m in complete agreement with you. If a business chooses to refuse service to a would-be customer because the customer is black, white, queer, dressed funny, or a Presbyterian, it should have every right to do so. Free association extends to commerce as well as individuals. If the business excludes a large enough portion of its potential base, it cannot survive. Voila! The market works.

The death of free association came with the Supreme Court’s specious ruling in Brown vs. Board, which denied “public accommodations” the right to discriminate on the basis of race. Inevitably, that right was narrowed to force inclusion of other “protected” groups, a distinction to which fags are currently (and successfully) aspiring.

But Chick-Fil-A does not refuse service to fags. This whole snit is because the chain’s owner had the gall to state a pro-family value.
