I do not recall that understanding but I will accept the fact it might be correct.
Although I have read the book more than once, the other way round is what I recall. That is, on several perhaps on many occasions, they lost their direction while simultaneously becoming scapegoats. Rather than fight they stuck to the deteriorating status quo.
The parts in the present (60’s) are in Israel where there is a fighting spirit and new direction.
American Jews voting in majority for Democrats is different and seems to be acceptance of the status quo in a deteriorating situation.
Schoen is 100% on the money.
My mom is a hardcore New Yawk Democrat living in Florida. She spends her days at Alternet, Moveon.dork, and all the commie websites. In her younger days, she campaigned for Jew hater Jimmuh Carter. (Despite the fact that we’re Jewish, but good luck telling her that.) She had a crush on Bill Caligula and thinks Hitlery is the smartest woman on Earth.

She’s voting for Romney. I don’t know if this is a stinging indictment Romney, but I ain’t jinxing it. This could be progress of sorts.

So where is the American Catholic vote headed - blue collar union workers seeing their jobs disappearing because of high taxation. Obama lifts work restrictions for welfare recipients but nickel and dimes working people, taxes companies more which leads to layoffs.
The Nazi party always specifically forbid Jewish membership.
Did one or two nuts come in anyway? Probably. There were black members of the KKK and white members of the Black Panthers. There are always nuts.
But 99 44/100 did not and were actively in opposition.
To try to hold the nuts up as a valid example is like saying Nancy Pelosi is the official spokesmen for Roman Catholics.

Kantorowicz left Germany in 1933 for Oxford, forced out by Nazi racial policies. By 1939, he was a professor at Berkeley.
Further, while it is true that, as a younger man Kantorowicz embraced the Romantic ultranationalism of the George-Kreis, he had only disdain for Nazism and was a vocal critic of Hitler’s regime.
Latter in life Kantorowicz was out spoken against the Nazi's when it was to late that was my original point. They don't learn until it is to late.
