We’re on British soil, so I don’t think I have an issue with this. It would be done out of respect for the host country, not to demean us.

If the games were here, then no way.

We didn't do it for Hitler, we didn't do it for King George in 1948, we didn't do it for the ChiComs in 2008, so why start now?

"We recognize no Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus!”

April 18, 1775, on the eve of the Revolutionary War after a British major ordered John Adams, John Hancock, and those with them to disperse in: “In the name of George the Sovereign King of England."

It’s no disrespect to anyone to not dip the flag. It simply respects our flag and what it stands for. Has any host country been offended for that reason since 1936?

“We dip to no one”. Even our ships don’t dip the flag to other flagged vessels as others do — been like that since the revolution. It says we are the United States of America and we will bow to no man or no country. If we do this, it is a loud statement that we no longer are a sovereign nation and no longer free... which is probably why Obama will decide to dip the flag. On a lighter note, this issue comes up every Olympics and every Olympics we refuse to dip.

Sets a bad precedent, don’t you think?

Shoudld we be dipping the US flag to any leader of any country where it is displayed?

How about Afghanistan, or China.

Can’t we settle for just having our first Black president bow?

Is Wookie gonna curtsey to the Queen? Poor old lady probably got extra protection to avoid being being grabbed again

Are you not familiar with the official flag etiquette: "The American flag dips to no earthly king"?

The American flag has never been dipped to any individual or group since the founding.

Under certain circumstances, the flag may be lowered to half-mast -- but never dipped.

This amounts to a straightforward attack on the concept of "American exceptionalism".

Hey SandyInSeattly........I don’t even know where to begin with your statement.

So, I’ll just say this......GO F**K YOURSELF.

That flag doesn’t dip for anyone or anything......EVER.

By the way, we won the war way back when. We can do what we want.

If individual Americans want to bow or whatever to their foreign hosts, that’s their business. When someone represents the United States of America, then no.

We have NEVER dipped our Flag at ANY Olympics of the modern era. Whether we were the host nation or not. PERIOD!

Maybe that dumb bastard in the White House and his acolytes can have the flag bearer bow when he dips the flag. If he can kiss some Commie’s ass on the march past, it’ll be an Obama trifecta.

In acknowledgement of the fact that this Nation rose, and endures ONLY by Divine Providence, the flag of this Nation bows ONLY to Almighty God, Himself.

If anything, the Brits should dip THEIR flag to our Olympic Team. We've yanked their chestnuts outta the fire TWICE, without regrets. Apart from the United States, and Divine Intervention, there would, today, be NO UK on the face of this globe, nor any France, nor any of a host of other European States.

Our flag bows to NO man, to NO Nation, to NO Earthly power. NOT NOW; NOT EVER.

It might be interesting to learn where the tradition began - the 1908 LONDON Olympics!
