AUSTIN — Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst says he never felt the need to seek the support of key tea party leaders nationwide because, “I’ve been focused on Texans.”

Asked about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and other grassroots darlings coming to Dallas and The Woodlands this week to campaign for Ted Cruz, his Republican opponent for U.S. Senate, Dewhurst said, “I’ve never gone and asked for their help.”

"Facts don’t lie: David Dewhurst is an establishment moderate who fought conservatives in Austin for billions more in spending," Keller added. "That’s exactly why limited-government conservatives throughout Texas are supporting free market champion Ted Cruz."

......”Cruz and Dewhurst square off Tuesday in a runoff election, with the winner considered the overwhelming favorite to prevail in November’s general election.

Dewhurst has overseen the state Senate since 2003 from the powerful lieutenant governor’s post. He has been endorsed by Gov. Rick Perry and most of the Texas GOP establishment in the race for the Republican nomination to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

He beat Cruz by 10 percentage points in the May 29 state primary but fell short of an outright majority in a field featuring nine Republican senate hopefuls.

[Texas Comptroller Susan ] Combs’ nod came as state Sen. Dan Patrick, a Houston Republican, also endorsed Dewhurst. Patrick is a tea party favorite himself and has clashed frequently with the lieutenant governor, but he also got into a high-profile yelling match with Cruz during a recent radio interview. The race has become one of the nation’s most-watched — seen as a test of the tea party’s grassroots prowess against mainstream Republicans in Texas who don’t lose many elections: a Democrat has not won statewide office here since 1994.

But this time the challenge is coming from the far-right, and coming hard. Cruz was in Dallas on Thursday for a major tea party rally featuring U.S. Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah, as well as radio host Glenn Beck and former U.S. Rep. from Texas, Dick Armey — chairman of the grassroots group FreedomWorks.

Meanwhile, the Tea Party Express parked a bus doubling as a “mobile phone bank” in the Dallas suburb of Irving to get out the vote for Cruz.

Another major Cruz bash Friday in Houston was expected to feature former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. She had previously recorded a phone message to voters for Cruz but had not traveled to Texas on his behalf.”......

I'm sick of this Dewhurst turd - I'm telling you, EVERY 2-3 days I get some mail shrieking about Cruz being a Chinese lawyer or some such - I quit taking them home and went to tearing them up right there and throwing them into the post office trash can. And the damn phone calls, TV ads, banner ads on websites I click on and campaign signs - no escape, anywhere. Am sick of that bastard violating my space. I hope he loses his ass and BIG.

One thing that drives me crazy is the inconsistent spelling of “Tea Party” and “Tea Partiers.” I think the left does this to irritate, but spelling the name in lower case is improper.

Here’s another example but you can’t miss “U.S. Senate firepower.”

“Cruz appears with tea party’s US Senate firepower”

WOW, wifey you really do your homework, congrats.

Even when we were butting heads, I respected your work ethic, now go do the dishes {just kidding}.

I'm from PA and since I'm not a demonRAT I can't vote in the Texas primary but I sent Cruz my $20.12 donation.

Hopefully he will win and we the people, will continue to send the message to both the rinos as well as the msm, that the TEA Party is not going away.

Amen. I too am so sick of Dewhurst's commercials/ads of any kind. They are all geared toward slandering Cruz instead of his 'go along to get along' record. I watched the debate the other night and he was caught lying so many times it was laughable. From telling people that there really was no difference between he and Cruz to claiming his flyer that tells Texans that Cruz fights for China and not America to claiming he had the endorsement of the NRA (LOL) dewhurst is just one lie after another. It's bad enough we're sending romney to Washington. We don't need to send his little brother.

My opinion.

Cruz for US Senate

"..... [Mitch] McConnell hand-picked [Rand] Paul’s rival in the GOP primary of 2010, Trey Grayson, who offered himself as a more standard champion for Kentucky interests.

Their famously tense relationship has settled into a smoother working routine than many Kentuckians expected. Paul has supported McConnell’s leadership. McConnell has let him use the floor to push his agenda, even when it’s going nowhere.

McConnell … can sense what’s going on out there and he’s been very adaptable,” said his biographer John David Dyche, a Louisville lawyer and political commentator.

Paul’s anti-spending agenda has put big pressure on McConnell, who built a career on bacon-delivery and devoted his last re-election to reminding voters about all the funds he’d secured for riverfront improvements and military operations in Kentucky. Even with Kentucky’s high poverty, Paul has changed the job description for a senator.

“I don’t think he’s brought home a crumb,” said Al Cross, director of the University of Kentucky’s Institute for Rural Journalism & Community Issues.

Grayson, now director of Harvard University’s Institute of Politics, noted that Paul has already forced Congress to debate his agenda, if not actually enact it. If Cruz wins, pressure would mount on McConnell and others.

“Texas is a huge player in national politics,” he said. “He would have a loud voice and a megaphone to shake things up.”

Supporters of Ted Cruz’s tea party role models Rand Paul, Mike Lee see influence but not results

Exactly.

I’m tired and appalled at the dirty campaign of Dewhurst.

The latest is beyond any reasonable measure and is an outright chicago-style smear: Using some crying mother to blame Cruz for her son’s suicide! My gawd, Dewhurst has no shame.

I see the ads and all Dewhurst is doing is telling me Cruz is a lawyer and then follows up with some sort of smear. Dewhurst never tells me WHY I should vote for him. Yeah, occasionally he will say “secure the border” but that is it. Nothing.

This dirty campaign on the part of Dewhurst is a sign of desperation and is playing into the democrats hands—he might BE a democrat the way he is assassinating Cruz’s reputation.

We are supposed to be on the same side but not according to Dewhurst. He not only violates President Reagan’s 11th commandment. . . .he revels in trashing it.

Dewhurst is no conservative or republican.

I think Dehurst meant to say, “I focused on NEW TAXES ON TEXANS, like my STEALTH INCOME TAX I called a “gross receipts tax,” and my WAGE EARNER INCOME TAX I called a “payroll tax,” and all the other taxes I wanted to impose so I can re-distribute earned money to my cronies, like my hero OBAMA.”

Translation, Dewhurst is ready to sell out the American people if he can get a sweetheart deal for Texas (a la Louisiana Purchase, by Mary landrieu). Who cares about the rest of the country when I can get mine for mine.

I agree, that latest ad with the “crying mother” is just so over the top. Levin endorses Cruz big time, good enough for me.

Double D mistake was keying on Texas instead of the base which are conservatives. Dewhurst doesn’t understand, like most RINO’s, that the TEA Party is a grassroots group of patriotic conservative voters. Most Republicans are conservatives and comprise the base in Texas. Big mistake by not getting The TEA Party support
