A young women’s Muslim group, along with volunteers from other faiths, plan to hand out hundreds of the traditional head coverings Saturday afternoon along Nicollet Mall.

They say the hijab is an often misunderstood part of Islam, and their effort is intended to unite people of different faiths and cultures.

A free hijab? Cool.

I wonder if they are also throwing in free FGM's?

Not at all misunderstood.

Developed by nomadic savages to hide their property from other nomadic savages, in order to make it more difficult for the other savages to steal the ‘good’ property by mixing it in with the ‘bad’ property.

What’s a barbarian to do?

Like Forrest Gump says: My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

The savages are always at risk of discovering that the property that they stole ends up being a Helen Thomas look-alike once the hijab is removed.

No doubt such trickery has convinced many a savage to steal goats, sheep and camels for his harem instead.

I’ve heard it is becoming overrun with these “types”. True? If so I feel for you. Thank God they are not down here in any numbers.
Maybe you would want to go down there and fill up your trunk with these “rags”. Tell them you are bringing them back to your harem.

I've been to the Middle East.I've seen how women live there

Same here. I lived in Bahrain.

One of the funniest things I saw when I was in the gold suk one day was a women, in head to toe dress, trip on her 4 inch heels. When she was getting up, she was trying to untangle her self from the hijab, we could see her wearing one of those bandage dresses that the hoochie mamas (Kardashians) wear.

Depends on the time of day. People do still work downtown...

I charge my customers a 30 dollar “downtown” fee any time they send me in to either of the downtowns. Much of it is just dealing with the BS of the downtowns.. Parking a 1 ton van that is 8’6” tall in a ramp does not happen so I have to drive around looking for a open air lot or open meter. If I get a meter I have to go out every 1-2 hours and put more money in it or move my van if they chalk a tire as there is a 2 hour limit to parking. Then the walk from the van to the building, dealing with getting ladders and other equipment in to said building (and carrying them from the van) makes me think even 30 bucks is to cheap.

Free rags? Not worth the hassle. I can get 50 good quality ones at Harbor Freight for 8 bucks with a coupon.

I was thinking they would make good placemats or cloth napkins. Is there a Chick-fil-a in that mall?

I live in Hopkins, MN I’m always tempted to ask the white women wearing the burkas if they had their ‘cuna’ cut off when they convertd.

That’s what we call them. Or ‘puty’. did you get your puty cut off when you converted?

Those words coming from someone who told me to read Isaiah 1 in reference to an earlier thread you were participating in are pretty wild and scandalous. Oh BTW, I had read Isaiah the book the week before you told me to. And reviewed it again on your suggestion. Then posted to you again, but you are so far silent.

actually, it’s more complicated than that.

Most Muslim countries only have women wear a simple veil, simmilar to those worn by European women in pagan times and later in Christian times.

So it is a custom that predates Islam, but is being revived as a way for women to insist they are pure and religious, not like all those infidel sluts prancing around a la Jersey shore or MTV.

In the days when shampoo was rare, wearing a head scarf made sense: kept the sun off your head outside and kept the dirt and cooking grease out of your hair when doing housework.

The full face covering is not the norm in most Muslim countries outside of Saudi Arabia: for example in Afghanistan, it was usuually only for rich women, since peasant women had to work in the fields with relatives, and you didn’t need to cover up with relatives. Then the Taliban enforced it as law...

In other words, it is a revert to the past, showing muslim pride, and not necessarily associated with extremism (but alas sometimes is).
