Despite Mayor Michael Bloombergs advocacy for a healthier diet and strong support for gay marriage, hes cold on the idea of banning Chick-fil-A within the five boroughs.
As mayors around the country including Bostons, Chicagos and San Franciscos are backing efforts to keep the fast food chain out of their cities due to the companys president, Dan Cathy, spending millions to push back against gay marriage, Mr. Bloomberg said its a bad idea and its not going to happen on John Gamblings radio show this morning.
Theyre all friends but I disagree with them really strongly on this one, Mr. Bloomberg said of his mayoral colleagues. You cant have a test for what the owners personal views are before you decide to give a permit to do something in the city. You really dont want to ask political beliefs or religious beliefs before you issue a permit, thats just not governments job.
Mr. Bloomberg went on to argue that blocking a business based on their political beliefs opens a potential slippery slope where liberal cities block conservative establishments and vice versa with conservative cities.
Freedom of speech everybodys in favor of it as long as its what they want to hear, he explained. Well the only way that you have your freedom of speech is if you give other people freedom of speech. This is just a bad idea and its not going to happen in New York City.
The mayor didnt weigh in on Chick-fil-As particular cuisine, however.
Never had one, he said of their sandwiches, maintaining that they would be welcome to open a business in the city with the right permits and inspections. I didnt even know about them until I read about them in the paper.
He may have not been recently sampling the fast food in Greenwich Village.
Hi, trisham. If “homo” isn’t a proper word for the pervert, then “homophobe” should be “homosexualphobe”.
Or we can use the name Gator wants to call them, but that would not be nice. I am sick of these perverts trying to change this country and this Chick-fil-A attack is of their doing.

I'm all for proper etiquette, but I am not for euphemisms that are employed in effecting cultural change. The term "gay" is such a ploy.
I don’t have them near me in NJ either; I never heard of them until this started brewing (though they may be in South Jersey, which is a different state altogether - Philly fans, south of the Mason-Dixon Line, etc.).
I’m amused that you feel the need to pipe in after Jim made his point. Just a pile on or what?
Oh, that explains it all - thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome.

Actually, we among the least tolerant of homosex here.
Canada, all of western Europe, and China are way more friendly to queers.
Pile!
An interesting choice of words when speaking of homos...
I am pretty sure that there is still a Chick-Fil-A in the Bayshore/Brentwood area — at least there was a place about 20 years ago. I think it was located in Sunrise Mall, quite appropriately right off Sunset Highway. I never had occasion to eat there back then, but I thought that the name was odd and I used to hear people pronounce it as “Chick - fill -a”..ha ha.
Maybe this time shorty engaged his tiny brain before his oversized motor mouth started spewing out senseless word.
If it was there is isn’t anymore =(. I did their location search. Only 1 in NY and it’s in NYC.
The 2nd closest is in NJ!
Putting on his libertarian hat. Ouch. Too small. Time to start planning what he can ban next. Maybe time to ban chicken-fillet sandwiches. Go at it that way.
When I was a kid, the only Chick-Fil-A was in a mall 100 miles away. It was a treat to go there. I was pleased when they started opening up stores in my area (over 20 years ago now), but had recently become disillusioned with them—the two stores I had been going to overcook their chicken to the point that they are hard and crunchy. Fortunately, I’ve found a relatively new location that cooks them just right. Even if I hadn’t, I’d be visiting the other stores just to show my support. As it is, I’ve gone about three times this week and have been able to enjoy the way this one cooks the food.
There’s a big sign at Rangers Ballpark that has EAT MOR CHIKIN painted, with the E H and K having light bulbs that light up when there is an error, a hit, or a strikeout. I hope the homos don’t take notice, or that the Rangers don’t give in to them.
I prefer the term, "pillow biter."
