1980, all over again?

It would beg the question of what kind of book that outgoing President Obama might write next? Dreams of a President? A composite of what would have happened between 2013 and 2016?

Obama hasn’t gotten to 50% in quite some time. The only thing that would save him is another Ross Perot.

It was just about this same time in the Summer of ‘88 that the polls showed a 55 to 38 percent lead for the ‘Rat nominee Michael Dukakis over Poppy Bush, Mitt would do well to remember how that turned out for his fellow former Massachusetts Governor.

"If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there."

Let it seep in...

I wouldn’t be too worried at this point. For a weak candidate like Romney to be even tied (or within margin) is pretty good. Once the fall breaks and a VP is added (along with continued economic stagnation), you will see him break away, I predict.

A lot of the approval for Obama is real soft at this point. His ‘strongly approve’ rating is in the mid 20s (Hardcore libs). And some of his approval is the Bradley effect as well - which will melt away inside the confines of the voting booth.

This poll probably reflects the growing impact of Obama’s “You didn’t build that!” idiocy.

Obama’s team is playing games with all these polls. They can’t get to Rasmusen but Gallup and others are carrying the water. RCP did not post any results yesterDAY FOR gALLUP. It must have been pretty bad for big O.

Obama has a discouraged base, and he’s turned off the independent voters. I don’t think his re-election is a shoo-in by any means.

Romney, however, has his base determined to vote against Obama for the most part, but they are still waiting on him to lead. Romney doesn’t lead, but he doesn’t react either. He manages. He waits, figures out his best payoff, and then directs.

America desperately needs a leader, but it looks like a manager is the best it’s going to get.

FYI. This is yesterday’s poll.

I posted today’s Rasmussen. But admin deleted it.

Today it’s 48-44 with Obama -17. 3 days in a row now where Romney has at least a 4 point advantage. First time since May where either candidate has produced such a constant lead.

Romney is far better at this than McCain who flailed and waffled and wasted everyone's time.

I think Romney knows that nothing really happens until after the convention, so he is doing what he did in the primaries ---- act presidential and above-the-fray, then go for the jugular when it counts.

I despise Romney and do not advocate anyone vote for him. Let's just wait for the convention.

Shoot! Romney went down -1pt from yesterday's 49! I was hoping he'd hit the 50 mark today...DARN!

I don’t care for the man either. At the same time, I won’t lie about him. He obviously has some excellent managerial skills. That is something McCain didn’t have, as you’ve said. He says some really undisciplined things (or trial balloons, depending on how you view it.), but I wouldn’t put it past him to pull off a victory, either. He is not a stupid man by any means.
