The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should use its power for good, not evil, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney told supporters Thursday night at a fundraiser in London where he will attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
My view is that the EPA if it keeps to its mission and does not use its power to foster or further an anti-carbon energy agenda would be a more effective department, Romney told the crowd.
Politico is reporting the comments today, and says that Romney also criticized as overreach the Supreme Courts Massachusetts v. EPA decision in 2007.
I happen to think that the decision by the Supreme Court and by the administration to have the EPA also regulate the emissions of carbon dioxide was beyond the intent of the original legislation, Romney said.
I believe the EPA has to see itself as being responsible for our air and water and not take action which can prevent us from taking advantage of the extraordinary energy resources we have, such as coal, oil, natural gas, Romney said.

Romney believes that by not calling for dismantling government, the media will go easy on him.
He means Tyranny is good if the right people are in charge.
Romney is no conservative. He will never favor anything that reduces the scope and size of government.
Now why would he say “get rid of it” when Nixon created it . . . ?
This is what disturbs be about him. He BELIEVES in powerful state. Just want’s Republicans and exp. himself in charge of it.
Amazing how many people say that.
no - Romney is fully aware that the mainstream media is going after his jugular and will misrepresent, fabricate and lie to put him in a bad light. He has been dealing with it for quite a while.
Meanwhile, back in the jungle:
Stupid Romney should be saying it would be good to get rid of the evil EPA.
H.R.750 - Defending America’s Affordable Energy and Jobs Act
To preempt regulation of, action relating to, or consideration of greenhouse gases under Federal and common law on enactment of a Federal policy to mitigate climate change.
Its been dead in the water since February of 2011. It hasn’t even made it to committee despite over 100 co sponsors.
If he says "destroy it" no one that worships the earth will consider him. If he says "fix it" people that want to destroy it get mad at him.
Can't we get Bambi out of office first and work from there?
WHY, Mitt, why?
Don’t you know we distrust gubmint’s claim of ‘forces of good, instead of evil’?
Romney is a liberal, his instincts are still liberal- even when pretending otherwise for the campaign
LOL here’s a thread where FReepers discuss our need for a dictator. (At least some do but there are rational people on the thread as well)
Romney has no intention of eliminating the EPA.
It would be easy.
Every state has their own version of the EPA. Eliminate the federal goliath and let every state safeguard their own environments.
Let’s have no illusions about Mitt. We are voting him in to vote Obooboo out. Mitt is a middle of the road big govt republican. He is not going to cut the size of govt. He will simply re-arrange the deck chairs on the USS Titanic.
