PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is standing behind stances taken by mayors in Chicago and Boston against Chick-fil-A after the companys president said he was not in favor gay marriage.
I came out in support of gay marriage and support the right of gay couples to marry and would be supportive of them in this case as well, Ravenstahl said Thursday.
Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said he doesn't support same-sex marriage. The fast-food chain said it has a history of applying biblically based principles to its business, such as closing stores on Sundays.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told the Chicago Tribune that Cathys comments "disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents," and therefore building the restaurant in Chicago "would be a bad investment, since it would be empty."
Last week, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald he would block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city.
--snip--
Ravenstahl said there are currently no plans for a Chick-fil-A restaurant in the city.

Boy mayor is an idiot. Good thing i have chick-fil-a 5 minutes away from me just outside the city.
Doncha just wish they’d come right out and say it?
“WE OPPOSE CHRISTIAN VALUES AND BELIEFS”
But, of course, considering their ideological father, they couldn’t be honest about their agenda.
I do not support elected officials in public office using their office to force their personal opinions on others - particularly in discriminating against businesses. Seems to me I heard somewhere discrimination was bad, now where was that...???
So you go right ahead and support those other over-reaching Mayors. I just decided to support who-ever runs against you.
This phoney outcry is ridiculous. These very people blasted 1 Million Moms for their boycott of JCP. Bunch of hypocrites.
Should I write to Ravenstahl and ask him when he plans to close all the Catholic and Evangelical churches in the City?
I guess none of these brain trusts want christian votes.
It’s really creepy how so many mayors are really “into” homosexuality these days.
There have been rumors that the boy mayor is gay; so maybe this is a fitting stand for him to take.
However, gay or not, he’s an idiot.
The Boy Mayor speaks......Pittsburgh has been abandoned by business, for good reason. The Chick Fil A here in the suburbs is packed daily.
Why can’t the rich liberals equal the generousity of the Cathy family?
Nor are there likely to ever be. Chick-fil-A does just fine in the nearby burbs. We have three in our hometown of Greensburg, a mid-sized city within commuting distance.
Pittsburgh can continue to make their money off college students, hospitals and parking taxes. Eventually the businesses paying them will get smart and move out to the 'burbs as well.
How courageous to threaten CFA, you anti-Christian bigot, when there was no plan to build one in your dump of a town.
I would be ashamed to live in cities where voters have put such ungodly leaders in public office.
I guess it’s OK now to review the applicant’s religious beliefs when considering a business permit.
This is sort of reminiscent of Germany 1935, or Shari’a law, or a theocracy, or fascism. But it’s OK, it’s pro-gay.
I was in a JCP on Saturday on my way to something else in the mall. You literally could have set off an atom bomb in there and not hurt anybody.
For those of you in Rio Linda, Luke Ravenstahl is Pittsburgh’s Boy Mayor (affectionately referred to in these parts by Mayor Opie). The product of a long line of local Democrat apparatchiks, he popped out of college and into a seat on Pittsburgh City Council at age 26. Since the head-butting of egos created issues with electing a Council President, they all voted for Boy Luke thinking none of the others would vote for him. He therefore became the unwitting Council President, which means he took over as Mayor when the sitting Mayor died in office.
He is perhaps best known for his active par-tay life which caused his young wife to grab their one-year old and head for the hills. He is now spending money on a survey trying to figure out why gainfully employed young families move out of the city (well DUH!)
Why do I suspect that if you compared the list of anti-Chick-fil-A mayors, and the list of Bloomberg’s ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’, you would have an almost identical match?
Soon to play in a city near you: A church who will not support gay marriage will be closed.
Mark my words, this is frightening.
Don't forget to include the mosques in that.
According to the Chick Fil A site, there is a location inside the Pitt campus.
It seems that the Boy Mayor didn’t know about that one.
yes
PLEASE someone who lives in PITTSBURGH include this post in your correspondence...PLEASE!
I went to Chik-Fil-A on Saturday. The lot was full and there were 15 cars in front of me at the drive-thru (2 Romney stickers and no Obama stickers).
The doof’s a jagoff ‘nat.
Leave if to the left to choose poorly which PC hills to die on.
Maybe a 1 to 2 percent bump in that. LOL.
yes and ask Luke about closing or stopping all the muslim owned businesses- muslims do not support homosexual marriage
Buddhists and Jews who want to open businesses should have to sign statements whether they do or not before business permits are issued
Let the inquisition begin
Doogle, thanks. But the first part is the important part, we now can consider someone’s religion when doing city planning and permitting.
Not to worry. The liberal, left-wing, dummy Democrat, Obamabots are only elevating Chick- fil-A to MacDonald status!!! Chic-fil-A rocks and is raking in mega cash!!! The American people still believe in free speech, freedom and the first amendment!!! Obama, you and your dirt ilk lose big time on this one!!! Remember folks, gay folks make up only about four percent of the USA population. That leaves about 96% of the USA population as potential Chick-fil-A customers. That’s roughtly about 308,000,000 customers. This was a loser for the bad guys right from the starting gate. Idiots, from Obama on down!!!
“Boy mayor is an idiot. Good thing i have chick-fil-a 5 minutes away from me just outside the city.”
I have one 4 blocks away from here in faggot Hollywood, Mexifornia. 2 blocks more is the Hollywood GLAAD office and buttmunchers haven’t protested in the past week since this has gone down.
Actually successful Pittsburgh Democrat politicians have long been fence-straddlers. With Pope Benedict on the social issues, while being somewhere between Richard Trumka and Leon Trotsky on the economic ones.
you forgot yinz guys
:)
HS football is right around the corner and you can pick up a CFA sandwich at a TJ home game while listening to a great band.
I miss all that Burgh dialect. I grew up there, but moved away in the 70’s with half of the city. :)
I still make it back every few years. We stop by Danny’s Parkview Pizza for a hoagie, and visit the old neighborhood. It all looks so narrow and run down now. But it was a great place to grow up.
“This phoney outcry is ridiculous. These very people blasted 1 Million Moms for their boycott of JCP. Bunch of hypocrites.”
Right, and one million moms never said JCP should be ousted from any locations, either. Change.org is swarming now with colleges that want to get rid of their campus Chick-Fil-As: Hypocrisy doesn’t begin to describe this behavior.
I have to agree with the run down part. When we travel, it’s the one thing we notice upon our return. The trip from the airport on the parkway isn’t bad as long as you don’t go past the “new” 79 interchange, the one that was planned 40 years ago.
While I don’t live within the city of Pittsburgh, I still call it home. Despite the problems with this region, and those problems are numerous, it’s still not a bad place to raise a family. Family members who, like you, joined the mass exodus of the 70s, enjoy the return to their home.
Danny’s in South Park (yeah, I know it’s officially in Bethel Park) has been a gathering spot since the days of my youth. I also agree that the hoagies there are the best anywhere.
As I posted on a different thread, to find out the reason for these mayors ‘coming out’ against Chik-Fil-A (CFA), you just need to follow the campaign money. They are not actually stopping a CFA store being built because they all know that would be an immediate law suit and a certain loss on multiple legal grounds.
Instead, this is that great American pastime, a summer doldrum emotion issue. All of these DEMOCRAT Mayors know that one of their key constituencies is the GLBT voters and contributors. So, every one of these speeches is not for anything but campaign contributions.
As so many other posters have said here and elsewhere, the best answers for this stupidity is to eat at CFA and vote these idiots out of office ASAP. Oh look, it is almost lunch time, maybe I should go eat at CFA!
We were at our local mall and also cut thru JCP, my husband was floored as it seemed we were the only folks in there, besides employees.
It all seems so incredibly narrow now. The streets were designed for horses. I lived in Brookline, up on Milan Ave, and went to Ressi and South Catholic. It’s not too bad up on Milan still, but not nearly as nice as I remembered it.
We also lived on Berkshire (behind the fire station) for a while, and that looks pretty run down these days, at least compared to the wide streets and newer neighborhoods of where I’ve lived since. My Grandma would hardly recognize the place, and she’d be very disappointed with the citizens who populate her old neighborhood. There’s so much tidying up that is never done... sigh.
And re: Danny’s Hoagies..... DROOL!!!! :) My whole family has been addicted to them since the 1960’s, when we’d drive out there and order hoagies, and then eat them while sitting in our car watching the movie on the drive-in next door (sort of like going to a silent movie). I’ve actually walked in and ordered a dozen large hoagies, uncooked, with the fixings on the side, to take back to California with me. :)
The left will never stop projecting their hate, their anti-Christian feelings, their racism on those of use on the right.
If you ever wanted a clear definition of projecting, you need look no further than the left.
Just how disfunctional must a brain be to believe:
1) Killing the unborn is just a choice.
2) Hate is being against 2 people of the same sex codifying their sexual perversion, which serves no biological purpose, by trying to make it the equivalent of marriage between a man and a woman.
3) Hate is being against a phony religion which makes women lower than 2nd class and openly calls for our death.
4) It is ok to kill the unborn if that unborn is a female yet at the same time touting oneself as supporting women.
I’m getting the distinct feeling that this is going to backfire badly on the growing number of liberal Dem mayors and governors. And the overall party itself. Which is never a bad thing!
My grandparents bought that house in the 30’s from the original owner/builder. They told me that that man constructed a kiln on-site in which he made the bricks with which he made the house. :) Sigh... makes me miss my grandmother’s generation, who bore and raised the WWII generation.
