Bowing low to the People of the Gun (pathetic barf alert)
suntimes.com ^ | 29 July, 2012 | LAURA WASHINGTON

A semiautomatic assault rifle, anyone? How about a few thousand rounds of ammo? On July 20, those weapons of choice killed 12 innocents at the Century 16 Theatre in Aurora, Colo.

The shooter legally bought an AR-15 assault rifle, three other guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, according to police. In America, acquiring a lethal assault rifle is almost as easy as picking up a buttered popcorn at the movies.

The communities of Aurora, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois University and Chicago’s South and West sides know that.

The families of thousands of murdered and injured souls get it. All those left behind, forever transformed, see it.

Why don’t our politicians?

The minute the grim news blasted out of Colorado, our “leaders” started scrambling, running away from the message seared into every lethal bullet — these guns must go.

If you hold the stock tight under the arm, and use the right hand to hold the pistol grip, finger out of trigger guard, the left hand's index finger in the trigger guard, moved rapidly back and forth, a 20 round mag can be emptied very quick.

Not so good for hitting anything smaller than the side of the building.

LOL

You mean it has a mounting place that allows a bayonet to be fixed, don’t you? Cuz it sounded like it has a bayonet attached that you can’t take off, and my cousin’s AR-15 didn’it.

Yes, bump fire, but even in full auto I don't think someone can get off 45 rounds faster than I can get 5 out of a pump shotgun.

Of course, a semi-auto shotgun can also be bump fired.

It always comes down to intent. There are no end of lethal ways of murdering lots of people in a packed space, such as a few gallons of gasoline at the exits.

We are lucky in a sense, that most crazy people act crazy, and not logical.

The logical ones are truly dangerous!

They are prone to use planes, and gas in subways, and stuff.

I’m only telling your what I’m hearing. Time and again I’ve heard of soldiers and military arms enthusiasts complain about lethality.

From what I understand, the wounding nature of the round is seen as an asset in some circles. That the theory is that a dead soldier costs nothing, but a wounded enemy requires two to carry him to aid and the medical resources to health him.

Personally, I’d rather make sure I don’t have to put the same man down twice.

The demographics are not easily discerned.

We know that half are committed by and against black people.

I have read that when “Hispanics” (whatever that means) are victims, they are counted as “Hispanic” but when they are perpetrators they are counted as “white”.

When Japanese Americans were kept as a separate category, Japanese in America had homicide rates lower than Japanese in Japan, which has very low rates indeed.

Murder is fundamentally cultural, and the rates of homicide are not changed very much by access to weapons.

Bowing low to the people of the gun is much preferred to bowing low to the Saudi king.

In a crowded theatre the shotgun would have been the more lethal weapon.

Machetes have been used to kill hundreds of thousands in Africa. Even when they have guns available, they seem to prefer hacking.

He could have brought in, amonia bottles and chlorine. Can your say mustard gas? He could have brought in a bunch of molotov cocktails. Or he could have rigged a pump to a gas tank and made a flamethrower. Imaging the body count that would have produced. Or he could have used a bomb.
I can’t think of this stuff all day long, while libs only think a gun can’t kill.

A semiautomatic assault rifle, anyone?
A question Ms Washington?
Do you know what a semi-automatic rifle is
Do you understand the difference between an automatic weapon and a semi-automatic weapon?
Why use the word assault rifle? ANY rifle that is used to “attack” (read assault) a human being is an assault weapon. It could be an old single shot 22cal rifle. If you get shot in the head with it you do not know the difference between it an an assault rifle.
Please stop writing article on items you know nothing about!

The headline says it all: "the People of the Gun"

Go look at the WaPo's gun control frothing and what they all have in common is the desire to control us, the gun owners, not the guns.

Conceiving themselves as the elites, they believe (the law and the Constitution be damned) they have the right to strip us of our rights, our property and use the force of the government to visibly intimidate us.

They're deranged with hate, and their screeds make the best argument for the 2nd Amendment you can find.

“The demographics are not easily discerned.”

Perhaps so, but this map may give some insight. Manipulating the “race” catagory of victims is interesting.

What all these shooters share is they all are on psychotropic drugs.

Exactly - the sister of a friend of mine killed her husband in bed when first taking anti-depressives.

The AR platform can shoot a wide variety of common calibers. The fact that the military continues to use the 5.56 has nothing to do with the AR.

An AR in 6.5Grendel might be the perfect battle rifle. Although to be fair I'm not sure I would want to go hand to hand with it vs. an M1a.

An M2 carbine fires at the rate of 750 rds per minute, which comes out to 12.5 rds a second. Which comes out to 62.5rds in 5 seconds.

Dear Laura Washington,
I’m sorry guns scare you.
Now, please go away and leave me alone.
Signed,
A gun owner.

The ruggedness of the m16 vs. AKs is a long debate. But how often is hand to hand with guns an issues. I’d rather be able to shoot straight and carry more rounds than the dubious advantage of a gun/club.

How long to complete your two magazine changes?

Of course, I went for 00 buckshot with only 9 pellets per round. 0 buckshot is 12 per round, and I think I can get more than 1 off per second. :-)
