Denver-Area Cake Shop Refuses To Make Cake For Gay Wedding
kktv ^ | July 29, 2012

On the heels of Chick-fil-A's president speaking out against gay marriage, a Denver-area cake shop has taken the stance a step further.

Masterpiece Cake Shop in Lakewood has refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple's wedding, sparking an outrage among the area's gay community, who have called for a boycott against the bakery.

Owner Jack Phillips told sister station KCNC that he has no animosity towards the gay community, and is simply refusing because he doesn't support gay marriage.

"If gays come in and want to order birthday cakes or any cakes for any occasion, graduations or whatever, I have no prejudice against that whatsoever. It's just the wedding cake, not the people, not their lifestyle," Phillips said.

But many in the community say Phillips' refusal is exactly that: discriminating against the lifestyle of gay individuals.

"I feel a need to disclose to anyone with an 'alternative' lifestyle that this company does not want your business, as they do not participate in making cakes for 'illegal' things such as a commitment ceremony," one woman wrote on the company's yelp.com page.

A group has established an online petition calling for a boycott against the bakery.

"We need to send a message to them that in this day and age, bigotry cannot and will not be tolerated," the petition reads. It has 2,125 signatures.

Beyond the Internet, KCNC reports that Phillips has received 1,000 angry messages about his stance.

Similar with the furor surrounding Chick-fil-A, some in the local community are applauding Phillips, ordering cakes from the shop specifically because of his position on gay marriage.

Even some protesters say they don't want to see the shop close down, but simply change their policy.

“I support local business, I think it’s really important to our community to support local business,” protester Cate Owen told KCNC. "I think we should want them to change...it's not like we want to shut them down."

Dozens of protesters swarmed the building Saturday, and have planned a bigger protest for next weekend.

That would be too honest.

They know that an agenda exposed is an agenda defeated.

Intolerance and the left go hand & hand. If you don’t see things their way or act as they want you to do they will condemn & attack you.

There is no reason, there is no respect for diversity, just emotional rage and attack against those who don’t proscribe to their self-destructive world view.

Homosexuality is a diseases that inhibits one of the most basic functions of life, reproduction. Homosexuality needs to be treated as a diseases not celebrated as diversity. Instead the left is hurting this population by telling them that their disease is healthy.

..and to his credit, he will not budge. From another article on this:

"We would close down that bakery before we closed our beliefs, so that may be what it comes to ... we'll see," Phillips [bakery owner] said.

I don’t remember even hearing about Chick-Fil-A before this. I’ll bet millions of Americans were in the same boat.
You're right! I never heard of them before, but now see there's one about 15-20 minutes away. I went there yesterday, but (doh!!) they were closed. Will return again this week. :)

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Strict+Scrutiny+Test

Being a homosexual is not a suspect category nor does it allow them to ask the court to review the discrimination using a `heightened scrutiny’ standard.
So there it is: No shirt, no shoes, no homos—no service.
Barry would say, `We built this guy’s business so we can tell him how to run it.’ try to get some sympathy from the NAACP. Until the CCLU gins something up, the rest of us say—it, uh, sucks to be you.

(If this guy came into my business, I’d run him out too.)

I think we should buybott more places that don;t bow to PC pressure.

Yeah. There should be an Internet list of pro-homo businesses that people can check before they shop.
It could be like a "Who's pro-Perv" Angie's list.

This is turning out so well for business, I think more business are going to admit to being pro-family. This has been one of the best advertisements in this countries history. Orders will be rolling in! Normal American citizens are celebrating the people who speak up and say what they want to say but have been threatened by the thought police into silence.

Man, this anti-homo campaign is becoming a huge success. I think this is wonderful.

I live close enough to Lakewood that I can just do it in person. However when I get around to visiting the place I’ll see if they do shipment orders.

Of course I have to remember to go there in the first place. I don’t really go to bakeries all to often.

I suggest we all go out and buy something from places like this.
###

Spot on.

I have no problem with them speaking their mind or peaceful informational picketing. It lets me know that that is a business I need to try. Without the queers going nuts because Chick-fil-A is owned by Christians, I might have never tried them.

Just refer them to the Your Black Muslim Bakery in Oakland. Problem solved.

Next they will be comparing this to refusing service to blacks in the south in the 1950’s. They love to compare it to blacks. If I were black I’d be offended. Deeply.

The good news is that the take the bakery is taking is the event, not the people, is the problem. It is against their religious beliefs to support an activity. Hello first amendment.

If they want a wedding cake from this bakery, they better keep the sex of the couple in the closet.

Same here, except in my case you can replace “might” to “would”. I don’t do fast food. Normally. ;-)

I agree. I said that last week after my third visit to Chick-fil-A. I hope they let me know about more great businesses to patronize.

I might have gone at some point. Chick-fil-A is my oldest granddaughter’s favorite fast food place. She can normally get me to do things eventually. LOL
