In the current edition of his Best of the Web Today column, James Taranto notes the oddly downbeat fundraising email sent out by deputy Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter. Bearing the subject line "Romney Defeats Obama?", Cutter goes on to warn that such "might be the headline you see" the day after the election.
In recent weeks, this NewsBuster has received a number of similarly pessimistic messages from the Obama folks. But one just received today is simply strange--downright schizophrenic, you might say.

Obama campaign on verge of a crack-up? Ping to Today show list.
But seriesly, folks, first they said what they want the stupids to think and then they said what they meant. Sorta like banging your head against a brick wall ‘cause it feels so good when it stops. Gahhhhh!
Handed out a trillion dollars to connected interested groups. He’s just wanting them to give back their fair share to the DNC.
Personally I view their pessimism as a cover story.
This is the Chicago mob and they control the federal budget and the ability to manufacture an infinite number of Baraqqi/Bernanke/Geithner minibucks.
I can’t imagine they have the slightest problem with campaign funding.
Having said that, I don’t view funding as a big issue in the election. It’s only going to be contested in a half dozen swing states.
I subscribe to all their emails and the desperation is funny, but at the same time distressing that our political system has devolved to this. They send out these emails that sound like they are all coming from angst-filled 14 year old girls whining about not having a prom date.
I guess they are speaking to their base, because most leftists are adolescents in adult bodies.
I have not seen a single email that is substantive and mature, with a mention of a single plan or idea to actually fix anything. Its always some teen-aged cry for help because Romney wants to shoot their pony or force 12 year old girls to become pregnant.
This is our enemy...and it is winning, or at least tied in the polls. It is disgusting.
“Seriously, are we seeing the signs of a Dem crack-up?”
May it be so.
“They send out these emails that sound like they are all coming from angst-filled 14 year old girls whining about not having a prom date.”
LOL: too true!
"Romney Defeats Obama? Our Dear Leader's transformation of the USA into a socialist utopia prematurely derailed? A return to constitutional government and the rule of law, where even minorities and union members have to follow the same rule as everyone else? A country in which people are judged only by the content of their character, and there is no special consideration for the color of their skin? Donate now to ObamaForACommunistAmerica.com, or all this could be our fate!"
"I'm Barack Hussein Obama, or at least that's the name I'm using for this phase of my life, and I approve of this message"
Speaking with a double tongue is very foolish, but certain political groups use it again and again.
The Obamunist see the orange jumpsuits and the hangman’s noose increasingly close!
Since President Obama can only remain our national savior if given more than enough money to buy the election defeat the forces of evil through decisive and thoughtful media advertisements and hence earn another term, I have tried my best to help him with a suggested letter to supporters. Sadly, he has not yet seen fit to do as I humbly suggested.
This is the administration that believes never let a crisis go to waste.
Their supporters are a group of chicken littles who see the sky falling in everything from cutting Taxes to modest temperature swings.
The campaign is talking doom and gloom because that motivates their base far better than hope or change.
