Nets Punt on Glenn Beck Drawing Crowd of 65,000 in Dallas
NewsBusters.org ^ | July 30, 2012 | Matthew Balan

CBS, which devoted four on-air segments between May 30 and June 1, 2012 to the "hundreds of Catholics" who rallied in support of dissenting nuns, ignored the tens of thousands who came from all over the U.S. to see conservative talk show host Glenn Beck speak on Saturday. In fact, all of the Big Three networks have yet to cover Beck's "Restoring Love" event in Dallas on their morning and evening newscasts.

CBS's Dallas affiliate reported that "more than 65,000 people filled Cowboys Stadium" for Beck's event. On Monday, Chris Ariens of MediaBistro's TVNewser blog noted that the gathering was a trending topic on Twitter on Saturday night.

Susy Solis of CBS 11 News in Dallas noted that Beck, "one of the most polarizing figures in America," drew the ire of the "notorious" Westboro Baptist Church, who protested the talk radio host. One unidentified protester labeled Beck a "false prophet."

This kind of omission from the Big Three isn't surprising. The networks also punted when Catholic dioceses and organizations filed 12 lawsuits against the Obama administration's abortifacient/birth control mandate in federal courts across the U.S. on May 21, 2012. They also regularly ignore the March for Life in Washington, DC, which draws hundreds of thousands to Washington, DC every year. As DC conservative talk show host Chris Plante has put it, one of the liberal media's greatest powers is the power to ignore.

In other words, I don’t give a darn what you think. I did mention one thing but you have to read it as I wrote it not read it as you think I wrote it....sorry that you have a reading comprehension problem...I am sure those that went enjoyed themselves more than they would have listening to you for the evening...

my point is that government promises to help people but individuals actually do help people and that is what was proved by the day of service

Agree. There is enough religious bigotry in this country that any use of Mormonism will be an effective tool against Romney.

Now you are just being obnoxious and contrary.

What is it that YOU were expecting him to accomplish?

End poverty and Visualize World Peas?
March in downtown Dallas and riot?

END

I disagree.

Beck got 65,000 people to show up from across America and the world for something that held nothing for them to personally gain but spiritual value. He got 35,000 volunteers to spend the day working on civic projects in the DFW area. Assuming they worked an 8-hr day (individual reports say they worked much more), that’s 280,000 hours of unpaid community service work.

THAT is newsworthy.

That security detail and vest were at the behest of the FBI, who was investigating what they described as several “credible threats” against Beck’s life and the lives of his family members.

There was no shark-jumping.

Actually I was hoping one of Beck’s fans could tell me what HE was expecting to accomplish and/or what he thought he actually did accomplish.

Are you genuinely unable to intellectually comprehend the value of getting 35,000 people show up for volunteer work, or do you just lack the ability to form an intelligent argument?

It's also been stated here that his wife asked him to wear it.

A couple years ago Glenn was aghast on his radio show about how Sarah Palin travels with NO security (or vest).

I’m sure that she did.

While I am continually amazed at Beck’s ability to gather information, organize people, and get the word out, Sarah Palin could kick his ass. She is far more capable of personally protecting her family than Beck is.

I thought they did that the day prior to the event. Am I wrong? If I am not then what were the goals of the event? I have asked a couple of simple questions—what did he hope to accomplish and what did he accomplish—and I have been told he assembled a lot of people and pumped some money into the local economy. I just have to believe that Mr Beck had more in mind than that, but asking his fans here only gets you insults and invective. Seems to me a lot of folks around here could benefit from some serious preaching.

The “event” lasted three days, not one.

The goals were the same as any of his events: organize, motivate, educate, and give something back along the way. This particular weekend was about reconnecting the common thread of worldwide conservative spiritual values. Apparently, it was a smashing success, far surpassing his expectations in regards to attendance, volunteerism, and global networking.

You have a short memory with regards to your own posting history in this thread.
