Those dissatisfied moderates hit Boehner with a one-two punch Monday.
First, the Columbus Dispatch reported that Rep. Steve LaTourette had abruptly decided to retire. That decision shocked many Republicans, in part because LaTourette – who like Boehner is a from Ohio – has had, at least until recently, an extremely close relationship with the Speaker.
At the same time, Syracuse Republican Rep. Hanna harshly criticized the GOP, arguing leadership has gone too far in deferring to the demands of conservatives. “I have to say that I’m frustrated by how much we — I mean the Republican Party — are willing to give deferential treatment to our extremes in this moment in history,” Hanna told the Post-Standard.
According to Republicans, moderate members of the House GOP conference feel that Boehner, who has struggled with an often raucous and openly defiant right wing, has forced them to go along with conservative demands but has provided them little in return.
One Republican familiar with the dynamics within the GOP argued part of the difficulty for Boehner has been the fact that conservatives -- and not moderates -- have been the "squeaky wheel" within the conference, which has forced him to focus on them for much of the 112th Congress.
Rather than work with his entire conference Boehner has had to "prove to conservatives constantly that he's advocating for them and not screwing them behind their backs," the Republican said.
Boehner remains deeply popular within his conference, and despite the frustration of moderates he faces virtually no chance of an effort oust him as Speaker.
Although a spokesman for Boehner declined to comment, one Republican lawmaker privately downplayed Hanna's complaints, noting that pushing back against leadership is a favored past time of lawmakers in swing districts like Hanna's.

Good God. We have almost zero legislation in this term to enact the tea party’s agenda. What are these losers seeing? These people are completely worthless...We have had a few symbolic votes like the Ryan plan and balanced budget, but made no effort to push the Senate to follow through. It was nothing more than getting both sides on the record, knowing the Dems would not allow any sort of meaningful action.
Leave it to these loser moderates to blame the ‘far right’ rather than pointing to Harry Reid and Obama who boldly refuse to take any action to address our problems. I bet these two think jacking up taxes and doing nothing substantial about spending is good ‘bipartisan’ legislation. See ya, buh-bye.
Oh please. These moderate liberal Republicans got the Republican Presidential Nominee, a huge liberal. What on Earth do they have to complain about? We conservatives are the loser no matter who wins the Presidency.

Yet another article designed to stir the pot and create discord among Republicans. The article starts with the premise that the “Tea Party Tilt” is a focus on social issues like abortion rather than fiscal issues. That is a flat out lie.
Second, the article finds a couple liberal Republicans who constantly bitch and moan about the “extreme fringe” of the Republican Party. They have drank the Dems Kool Aide in the sense that there is not one position that the Republicans are taking on abortion or fiscal matters that was not a mainstream position 15 years ago.
I suspect that there is no real problem here, other than two or three Republican liberal cranks who would complain about pretty much anything to get their names in the paper.
While they’re leaving, they could have the decency to take bonehead with them.

Indeed, the Tea Party’s goal is to take over the GOP, giving the people a real choice between constitutional conservatism and socialism.

Republicans who side with Democrats are deemed ‘moderate’. Democrats who side with Republicans are deemed ‘conservative’. Therefore, the liberal perspective is merely moderate according to the MSM.
These two represent less than 1% of the caucus. Big revolt huh?
