Poem: The Angry Man

The Angry Man

The other day I chanced to meet
An angry man upon the street —
A man of wrath, a man of war,
A man who truculently bore
Over his shoulder, like a lance,
A banner labeled “Tolerance.”

And when I asked him why he strode
Thus scowling down the human road,
Scowling, he answered, “I am he
Who champions total liberty —
Intolerance being, ma’am, a state
No tolerant man can tolerate.

“When I meet rogues,” he cried, “who choose
To cherish oppositional views,
Lady, like this, and in this manner,
I lay about me with my banner
Till they cry mercy, ma’am.” His blows
Rained proudly on prospective foes.

Fearful, I turned and left him there
Still muttering, as he thrashed the air,
“Let the Intolerant beware!”

Could not find a date of publication, but the author died in 1978, so it's at least that old.

But I think it is more relevant than ever.

that's the problem. If ya had dealt with him then, he wouldn't rule the world today.

The most liberal people I know, are also the angriest. They level of projection they have simply staggers me. I remember running into an old friend several years ago - he told me how much he wanted to murder George W Bush and he was literally shaking with rage. I said that seemed a little severe, just because you disagreed with someone politically. He replied that he could see it was an extremely emotional issue for ME and that we should discuss something else. It's sad that they're so delusional they can't be reasoned with.

They don’t know what fear or anger is.

Everyone I knows has nothing but blunt contempt left for government at all levels.

That's very odd. Most libs I run into are too stupid to be angry, as they're not paying attention to what matters.

Everyone else we know have nothing left but anger and contempt for government at all levels. None of these people are happy.

Very strange.

The liberals I'm most familiar with are those who went to college with my daughter. They still live at home with their moms (no dads - no jobs), yet they think they're so wise, they can dictate how everyone else lives and spends their money - and they get upset if everyone doesn't follow their self proclaimed genius.
These kids are the epitome of "weird." They have absolutely no future, yet they feel only they can rule the world (sitting next to a water heater in their moms basement).

Seriously, liberals are like strange little insects. They're like those creepy looking bugs stuck with pins in a collectors office. They're just plain WEIRD!!!

Liberals - using political correctness - have created a situation where no one is allowed to disagree with them. That's the groundwork for their rage.

Liberal elites have come to believe they carry THE TRUTH - and anyone who dares speak against them is a heretic. They would burn us at the stake if they could... Our existence is a threat to their cutural dominance.

Not only do we NOT believe what they believe, but we feel many of their beliefs are silly. An example would be the various scare tactics they use to keep their ignorant followers in line - Club of Rome, Population Bomb, Global Warming, Global Cooling, Peak Oil, etc etc...

My wife and I had a similar run-in with someone we had not seen in a while. He said "remember that time we met Tom Delay, when he was first running for Congress? I wish I'd shot him!" Yep, they are passionate, angry and ignorant.

I no longer keep up with old friends from college who are überleftists. I was a lefty in my college days, but I became educated and outgrew it. I have no use for America-hating commies.

Tolerance is the virtue of believing in nothing.

The amusing part about the modern insistence on “tolerance” is that it is oxymoronic.

By definition, for me to express tolerance of your actions, I must disapprove of them. If I approve, tolerance isn’t possible.

Somehow the term has morphed to mean approval or even celebration of whatever we are supposed to be tolerating.

It is impossible for me to tolerate Mexican food because I enjoy it so much. My limited experience with Filipino cuisine requires considerable tolerance, though.

Interesting point, and perhaps we'll agree to disagree.

I'm not happy at all with where things are going in the country, but I believe, ultimately, it's in God's Hands, and things will come out in order with His Will.

While you're right, nearly every lib I meet is, well, not necessarily stupid, but certainly ignorant. They only have the interest and mental capacity to listen to brief snippets of "news". Therefore, they are very influenced by campaigns that demonize the opposition. They won't ever take the time to see if charges leveled are true or false, they simply believe things like "I heard Mitt Romney outsourced a whole lot of jobs. I don't like the sound of that..."

This is who we're up against to save our Country.

“Tolerance’’ is what liberals scream at we conservatives when we’re winning our arguments.
