Obama exempts all military personnel from sequestration cuts
The Hill ^ | 7/31/12 | Jeremy Herb

President Obama will exempt all military personnel accounts from the $500 billion in defense cuts under sequestration, the Obama administration said in a letter to Capitol Hill on Tuesday. Acting Office of Management and Budget Director Jeffrey Zients told Congress the president is exercising his authority in the Budget Control Act to exempt military personnel from the 10-year sequestration cuts, according to the letter obtained by The Hill. The decision to exempt personnel will place further strain on the budget accounts that defense contractors rely on for weapons programs, should the automatic spending cuts occur.

Isn’t this a line item veto?

Maybe it would be a good idea for the President to have, but my understanding is he (any President) doesn’t.

So the military hardware and programs go bye-bye, but the personnel stays??? How does THAT work? How much longer can 0bama rape our defense capability before China or Russia land on our beaches?

Personnel will be cut through attrition, not allowing as many to stay on at the end of their current tour of duty, and reductions in recruitment. They will also go after reserves and Guard units.

No, it would be a terrible idea. (re line item veto)

Well, I was trying to set that debate aside and comment on how the President views gun restrictions through the short-term prism of re-election and his long-term anti-gun posture.

On the line-item veto: I'd have to say it depends on the President, which in and of itself, now that I think of it, might make it a bad idea. On the other hand, Chris Christie was able to use it (it's in the NJ constitution) to help pull NJ's finances out of the dumpster.

It’s already begun. Leadership is very aware that they have to weed out the deadweight and, trust me, they’re eying the weakest links.

Goes along with a pacifist agenda for red meat for the left, yet tries to keep the unemployment rate down.

This administration is pure politics...but all of us here knew this years ago.

So inquiring minds want to know just kind of work will all the military personnel be doing if there are no weapons to work with? Local YMCA programs?
