Locals show love for Chick-fil-A ( Johnson City, TN)
Johnson City Press ^ | August 1, 2012 | Jennifer Sprouse

The amount of cars seen on State of Franklin Road heading toward Peoples Street, as well as cars wrapped around the Walgreens on State of Franklin and West Market Street Wednesday, would easily resemble a Black Friday mob, heading out to scour the sales racks.

People were not out looking for the latest deals, though, but rather they were out to buy chicken at Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.

It all started after former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee encouraged his viewers to ‘Eat More Chicken’ while speaking on his FOX News TV show and Johnson Citians turned out in numbers to support the recently controversial food chain. Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy sparked outrage within the LGBT community, as well as those who support same-sex marriage.

As crowds outside the local Chick-fil-A franchises, as well as the restaurant located in The Mall at Johnson City, waited nearly 45 minutes just to place their order, it was evident that Cathy’s opinions resonated with many people in the Johnson City community.

The woman who wrote this also did a story on our Rally for Religious Liberty in June. She actually writes as a journalist rather than an advocate.

A friend call me from Kingsport at 7:30 last evening. He reported a quarter mile backup on Stone Drive. He’s a guy who had lost his interest in “politics.” But, he sounded positively energized just from the sight he saw there.

Several here in Texas were like that. Any chicken that survived yesterday is a lucky bird! :)

I’m heartened by the response to this.
People are not as apathetic, resigned or self-absorbed as I had imagined.

Let’s hope it translates into voter action come November, all the way down the ticket.

It was a nice thing to see and experience.

The reaction IMO was more of a “don’t you tell ME what I have to believe in” than a rejection of SSM.

While many if not most in CFA oppose SSM, there were lots there who just don’t want to be told by gov’t what’s ok to think/believe. That’s a bit of a different line but the line, whatever it was, was definitely crossed by the SSM crowd.

Accept SSM, that’s pushing it... but requiring us to approve it? No effing way.

Some stories are reporting that people went to CFA yesterday because of the way some p[oliticians in Boston and Chicago are attacking the First Amendment rights of Chicl Fil A.

I am fully aware that is a good reason to go,but I admit I went because I have had a bellyful of these damned pervert attacking heterosexuals. If they want to play sex games in their waste system, that is fine with me, but keep it to yourself. I don’t want it flaunted in front of me and my kids, and I don;t want their recruitment efforts in schools.

How about simply supporting marriage as it has existed in every society on earth, time-immemorium for centuries on end?

This wasn’t about “same sex” anything. It was about traditional marriage, which were what the CEO’s comments were about in the first place.

So how many people who assumed that because Will and Grace was a success (I liked that silly show, as did many others who do not necessarily want free speech quelled because it doesn’t ‘toe the line.’) that they would let this flat out attack on CFA stand?

Kudos to the reporter and to the Johnson City Press. They are the last of a dying breed -— honest, objective print journalists.

Here in Erie, PA we are stuck with a lone newspaper, the Erie Times-News, which is edited by a fatuous, arrogant, self-important liberal fascist who is determined to make every local citizen think the way he does.

Yesterday, as was the case throughout the country, the local Chick-fil-A was mobbed. Thousands of patriotic citizens from every walk of life descended upon the store and happily waited in line for an hour or more, just to buy a meal and show their support for freedom of speech and free enterprise. It was one of the most incredible things I have ever witnessed. All the local TV outlets had coverage; in fact, it was their lead story.

This morning, I went out to purchase the local rag in order to see what they had to say.

On Page One of the local section, there was an article about a local protest in the public park over some pending budget cuts. The local TV news I watched happened to cover that protest, as well, and the camera showed a pathetic little gathering of no more than six people. Nonetheless, the editor of the Erie Times-News decided to put THAT story on Page One.

In an act of magnanimity and balanced reporting (sarc), though, said editor DID cover the gathering at the local Chick-fil-A .... on page four, right next to the obituaries. (is this what’s meant by “burying a story”?)

Anyhow, the “coverage” consisted of a photo of a lone lesbian holding up a homemade sign with a 20-point caption, “COMPETING POSITIONS”, and indicating that the woman was “protesting Chick-fil-A”.

No mention of the literally THOUSANDS of people (myself and my wife included) who showed up at the Erie CFA yesterday, no interviews, nothing.

So, don-o, be thankful that Johnson City has one of the few remaining honest newspapers. A lot of us aren’t so lucky.

My first exposure to blatant liberal bias was during the post-election 2000 demonstrations.

There were over 200 pro-Bush demonstrators on one block.
Reporters showed up, found TWO pro-Gore teenie bopper chicks with signs and set up an interview shot where the camera faced AWAY from the crowd on the curb.

They were trying to make it seem like they weren’t even there!

I think “no effin’ way” and “this far and no further” has been reached by the sleeping giant.

Attention Lefties - this was a warmup for november.
We’ve come to understand we can’t get along with you people - nay, we can’t “tolerate” you any longer, because your goal is our absolute destruction.

You must be, and WILL be, defeated.

Be assured, however, that in your defeat, you will be treated FAR kinder than you intended to treat us.

Ping to #11 to the gal I rescued out of Erie PA so many years ago.

Actually, there was a lot to like about the area - just a lot more to like about upper east Tenn.

The power of 7% if that lobby in America is scary.

The communist party in the former soviet union was only 9.7% of the population.

I expect the big difference is that the other 93% here own guns.

Even though I haven't lived in Erie in 25 years, I still think ---more than you might suppose --- about Sr. Joan Chittiser and the old Pax crowd. If I were still in Erie, I believe I might order $100 worth of Chick-Fil-A and have it delivered to Mt. St. Benedict. Call it a wry love.

I was at the one on 407 in Lewisville. The place was full; took an hour to get through. Everyone was in a great mood, Very positive experience. The crew were working their butts off, and enjoying every minute of it.

Homos already have equal marriage rights. Homo men are free to marry any woman who will have them just like normal men are. Homo women are free to marry any man who will have them just like normal women are.

What the mean spirited militants want is a new right. Granted, this new right would apply to normal people as well as to perverts, but it is still a new right. The right to marry applies to everyone equally now and there is no need to create a new right.
