Even at the Olympics, athletes in the sport of shooting face questions about gun violence
Washington Post, AKA Leftism Central ^

Katie Yergensen, spokeswoman for USA Shooting, the Olympic-chartered governing body for the sport, says the team is well aware of stigmatization. “It comes hand-in-hand with the nature of the sport. It is generalized in the public, because what we do is different than other traditional sports. . . . But that’s why we are always emphasizing safety, accountability and team building.”

Anyone who expects ANYTHING but raw sewage-quality leftist propaganda from the press is a hopeless, naive dolt.

They have done everything except ADVERTISE that the only viewpoint they will advocate is a desire for total civilian disarmament, and a pure command-economy communist economic model in America.

Their so-called 'news' reporting reads like editorials, and their editorials read like fevered rants.

As far as I know, Scholastic Shooting Programs are the only sport that have never had an incident of participant or fan violence.

"The politics of shooting cannot be easily divorced from the sport..."

No kidding. In my youth, I was a member of my high school's rifle team. We were nationally ranked in 3-position small bore competition at a time when the school's other athletic teams couldn't even make local rankings. Each year in January, the school held it's annual sports banquet honoring members of every team, and presenting members with their varsity letters. This included the debate and chess teams. The rifle team was told it could not attend, and that varsity letters for its members would have to be presented in private, at a separate venue. The school said it didn't want to send the "wrong signal" to the other students. Our team coach and sponsors were decorated combat veterans of W.W. II. One was Audie Murphy's CO. The other was tank commander who liberated Ohrdruf concentration camp. None of us smoked, drank, did drugs, or so much as had a traffic ticket or academic suspension, but we were none the less treated as pariah.

I didn’t know discrimination against rifle teams went back so far. My coaches in high school & college were all WWII and Korea vets (and Vietnam vets as time went on). We attended all the sports banquets & events but then again this was the mid 1960’s. Never heard this garbaaaage about guns-are-bad-for-kids. Maybe that dates from Columbine.

Anyway, I’m sure you have seen the poster that says,

“There has never been an enemy soldier killed with a
Football
Rugby ball
Basketball
Soccer ball
Baseball
Tennis ball
Volleyball
Raquetball
Or Handball. This has always been the work of a trained rifleman.”

The jocks didn’t appreciate that one but we rifle shooters were varsity like everyone else, earned our letters & trophies and were part of the school’s image of excellence in competitive sports of all types.

On the flipside, I’m sure there are plenty of sports equipment that have been used to commit murder...

Why not question those who participate in the related sports?

I would argue that sports like boxing, judo and wrestling do more to promote violence than target shooting.

I have wanted to paint a $3,000 - $4,000 Olympic rifle black.

Then see how fast liberals would go ballistic calling it a Armilite AR-15 assault rifle or an AK-47 assault rifle.

But why deface a fine rifle, it would be like casting pearls before swine.

While they are at it they need to ban all violent, combat related Olympic sports!

Javelin - Spears!
Hammer throw
Shotput
Discus
Judo
Wrestling
Taekwondo
Boxing
Fencing

Plus, many of the team sports grew out of a need to train young men to be warriors, not fashion designers.

The term “hoplophobe” needs to be introduced into the common public lexicon, and made to have the same negative connotation as “homophobe”.
