Letter from London: Romney was right
human events ^ | august 1, 2012 | Nicholas Vardy

The conventional wisdom in the British press was that Mitt Romney’s visit to London was a gaffe-filled disaster. The mainstream media in the U.S. quickly cottoned on to this unexpected windfall as evidence that Mitt Romney is not fit to be commander in chief of the United States of America

Mitt wasn’t right. The purpose of his journey to the UK was to forge allies and improve his international standing. He failed to achieve his aims.

A canny politician wouldn’t visit an ally and then criticise issues with organising an Olympics in the middle of the world’s busiest city. It’s like a British politician visiting ground zero to pay his respects and then telling Americans it was really partly their fault for having insufficient air cover and airline security. It’s simply not done and it helps no-one.

Sorry, bad analogy, as your time line is off.

Better analogy:

British politician visits NYC on 9-10 and says:

"The Twin Towers could be vulnerable to an attack and I am concerned...."

It is a sorry sight to see even Freeper's buying into this DNC/MSM-mass-hysteria-Romney-Gaffe BS.

Mitt was human. He didn’t do himself any lasting damage. But he certainly could have handled things better.

Your analogy is preposterously ridiculous.

LOL —I’m reminded of the great movie “Unforgiven”.

Caulkhead = English Bob (the character played by Richard Harris)

Michael.SF. = Little Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman’s character)

English Bob just received a “whupping” on FreeRepublic!

The Brits and Europeans do not like Republicans, period. ANything said by one of us is slander and piggish, as far as they are concerned. Let a Democrat make the same criticism and they are a little shocked, but give the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they misspoke or were misinformed. We lived in Europe 20 years. I know how they feel about both sides of our political system.

“The Brits and Europeans do not like Republicans, period. ANything said by one of us is slander and piggish, as far as they are concerned.”

An amazing sweeping gneralisation there. You reckon you know the opinion of over 500m people, of whom I reckon over 300m have never heard of the republican party. It’s as stupid and ignorant comment as me saying all Americans are fat.

“We lived in Europe 20 years”

It’s big place Europe, bigger than the US and has 50 vastly different countries with very varied political leanings. Lefties don’t generally like republicans, right wingers often do. To say they all share the same view about a politcal party from another country is laughable.

I suppose he should have just bowed down. I don't know about you but I respect a man who speaks his mind. You can like it or not, that is the way we progress. If more people could deal honestly with issues we would all be better off.

Not sure if I like being cast as Little Bill, but I thank you! (I think)

I would have cast you as William Munny (Clint Eastwood’s character) but he, unfortunately, didn’t have the necessary interaction with English Bob.
