With more than 130 in attendance and about a dozen onlookers on scene hoping to catch a glimpse of America's first lady, Michelle Obama delivered a stump speech aimed at energizing the local Democratic base as she campaigned for her husband's re-election efforts.
Among the attendees joining Obama for lunch in the MassMutual Room of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield on Friday were NBA player Grant Hill, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, State Auditor Suzanne Bump, Congressman Richard Neal, D-Springfield, the recently retired former state Rep. Raymond Jordan, and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.
After landing at Barnes Regional Airport in Westfield at 1:35 p.m., the first lady was transported to the hall of fame by a secured motorcade.

Donors who contributed $1,000 were set for lunch, but those who gave $2,500 got the meal plus a picture with the first lady. And the really generous couples who gave $10,000 received the aforementioned perks plus prime seating at the event.
Taking the stage toward the end of the fundraiser, the first lady, wearing a red, black-patterned dress, thanked those in attendance and spoke of the many topics driving the conversation as her husband fights for a second term against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
The first lady touted the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act her husband championed and discussed some of the changes it made to current law. When she mentioned how pre-existing conditions are no longer a legal reason to deny someone coverage, the crowd erupted into cheers.

Only 150 people willing to hear her speak. How many actually paid vs. invited guests like Malloy and Patrick?
Wow! Talk about a packed house! What a turn out! How much more did we taxpayers fork over for the event than what this circus brought in in campaign funds?
The experts on achievemens and values...
FUBO, you SCOAMF.
FUBO, you SCOAMF.
I thought she was still milking the Olympics gravy deal.
Why did she come back to the states?
All of Holder's People there vote (D) to keep their gravy train flowing.....that's the "Acheivement" they see.
Mooshelle and the Resident sure love to capitalize on the achievements of others.
You’d think she would have enough class to stay away from all these events, since nobody did any of these things on their own.
There was a favorable jobs report today. The Obama administration instantly too credit for each new job. “That private sector NEVER did anything on it’s own. WE DID IT!”
Aint fittin, aint fittin, aint fittin...
I have relatives who helped build that building. What is striking is they came to either Springfield College or AIC and had 5000 people in 08’ big change ain’t it? By the way I know Springfield ( was their 2 weeks ago ) and I know Detwaa. Springfield is beginning to look like Detwaa, especially around State Street near the Court House. The area is so much poorer, not just in dollars but in spirit.
130 in attendance?
I gave a speech at my church on orphans in South America and drew 200.
So far Malloy achievement is UCONN's men's hockey upgrading.
Only 130 people at the basketball hall of fame? WOW! There was more people to see Jim Calhoun being honered then to see the cow.

Then the article states: The first lady related the president's story of being raised by a single mother to her own story, going on to talk about the American Dream. "What I remind people is that Barack knows what it means when a family struggles. He knows what it means to work hard because you want something better for your kids and your grand kids. Like me and like all of you, Barack knows the American Dream because he's lived it," the first lady said.
They have said this several times, but...when was she raising Obama on her own as a single mom? IIRC she lived with her parents when she came back from Africa after her divorce. Then she remarried and moved with her second husband to Indonesia where Obama went to grade school for a while and learned to hate America. After that, she left her son with her parents to raise. (Ever wonder why she didn't leave her daughter, too???) Anyway, Obama's grandparents were not exactly struggling, they both had good jobs and Obama lived well in Hawaii, attended a good school, and every picture of him from that time does not show him looking very poor or in dire straits. So...when did his mom work hard and when did she struggle to give her kids the American Dream?
