Prince Charles launches campaign to save Fish and Chips

The Prince of Wales has launched a campaign to save the future of fish and chips as he warned of the "dire" consequences of over-fishing.

"Global fish stocks are deteriorating and we cannot ignore the fact, merely carrying on as if it is business as usual," the Prince said.

In a speech to representatives of the worldwide fishing industry at the World Fisheries Congress in Edinburgh, the Prince reminisced about how he escaped from school at Gordonstoun to buy fish and chips in Inverness.

But he said a meal we take for granted will be off the menu in future without long-term management of fish stocks and better scientific research...

The Prince, who is known as the Duke of Rothesay north of the border, used his speech to highlight the work of his International Sustainability Unit, which has set up a marine research programme to identify ways that fish stocks can be managed in such a way that there are more fish, more jobs and better economic returns.

He pointed out that the cod stock in the North Sea, which had become severely depleted through over-fishing, has doubled in size over the past six years thanks to strict fishing quotas and other management techniques, but elsewhere in the world fish stocks were still shrinking.

He said: "If fish stocks fail, then the social and economic consequences will be dire. Just think of all those thousands of coastal communities in Africa and around the world whose livelihoods and futures depend on fish - where will they go, what will they do? How would escalating conflict over scarce resources be contained?

"Global fish stocks are deteriorating and we cannot ignore the fact, merely carrying on as if it is business as usual."

"fish in British ‘fish and chips’ is not cod, but dogfish" Like Nancy Pelosi commenting on KFC peasant chow ("It's chicken, isn't it? Fried?"), for Chuck `fish is fish'. And as another freeper noted, his eyes are so close together he can see through a knothole and retain full depth perception.

The Prince just needs to rule the globe so he can ration fish and chips to the peasants to make sure there is plenty for the royalty!

Pleanty of peasants, or plenty of fish? Or is that redundant?

How this PC Fop is Harry’s father is beyond me.

If the Queen really understood the long-term problems facing England, she would immediately abdicate in favor of Harry.

And then if Harry really understood the long-term problems facing England, he would then immediately move to set things right.

Absent both of those things, England is finished.

You don’t need cod to make good fish & chips; walleye is even better.

I’ve come to think northern pike are even better then walleye. There seems to be more flavor.

Course, any fish that was wriggling 10 minutes before you throw it into the pan is indescribably good.
