Love her or loathe her (and those seem to be the only options), Sarah Palin wont go away. Despite holding no office and having no obvious intention of running for one, she continues to dominate headlines and divide the country. So how will Romney handle her in 2012? Presuming that he wont nominate her for Veep (the smart money is on a really boring white guy), what role if any will she take in the campaign? Should the GOP embrace the Palin effect or pretend it doesnt exist?
Palins national role in the last few days reminds us why she matters. Last Sunday, Dick Cheney told ABC News that he thought putting her on the ticket in 2008 was a mistake because she wasnt capable of being President of the United States. Cheneys idea of a perfect ticket would probably be Cheney and Cheney, so we might put this one down to ego. But his remarks highlight the fact that Palins pick in 2008 is still relevant to the debate over the GOPs strategy in 2012. The choice is this: do they run a moderate ticket that doesnt offend anyone or take a risk on a radical ticket that angers some but motivates others? How mavericky does Romney want to be?
The evidence suggests that the maverick strategy didnt work in 2008. Some will say that the Republicans chose the wrong maverick, and theres no denying that Palin wasnt yet ready for the media exposure. But a fair mind can never quite dismiss the Palin gambit out of hand because it was also tried in the wrong year. Frankly, the Democrats could have nominated Roseanne Barr in 2008 and the crazy lady wouldve won by a landslide...

Sarah Palin is not dividing the country, the communists(democrats/news media) are divisive, and blaming.
I’m thinking the thought of a Conservative pick is a lot less boring than having to read more nonsense out of this chronically leftist rag.
You’ve really got to wonder what the angle is, when they’re addressing the topic of Palin.
I remain unconvinced that Romney needs to involve Palin at all.
It’s not a snub if he doesn’t invite her in. It’s an honor if anything if he does. The absolute last thing I want to see right now, is a draft Sarah campaign for vice-president.
If we want to beat Obama, we need to avoid any such effort. If he didn’t then pick her, it could turn more people off to his candidacy. Those of you who want to see Obama removed from office wish to chance that?
I’m not voting for the guy, and even I don’t want to see that.
The Telegraph is leftist?
I think a Romney / Palin ticket would be a disaster, for many reasons. Firstly, it’d make the JFK / LBJ relationship look warm and convivial, second, it’d turn off many independent women and low-information voters who bought into the whole “I can see Russia from my house” nonsense or are jealous of her. Third, he doesn’t deserve her as a running mate (neither did Juan McLame, but that’s another story) and fourth, he’d marginalize her from the first day. I could go on and on, as I’m sure you could, too.
The Telegraph was good in Ambrose Evans Pritchard’s day. Since then they’ve gone down hill IMO. The Clinton era dynamic was a rather strange thing.
Some of the MSNBC Lefties actually got their start in political commentary and the like, during those days dissecting Clinton and company.
Keith Oberman was quite critical of the Clintons and their antics. I actually liked the guy moving from a Los Angeles sports show, to Clinton era talking head. Then when he got his own show, my goodness how the role changed. Bill Maher used to be quite funny. Now he’s a pig leaking Leftist sewage non-stop.
It’s my take the Telegraph published Ambrose’s reports from the U. S. because it sold papers. It was probably not ideological, because once the Clintons were gone, all pretenses vanished that it was a pro U. S. (style) Conservative paper.
If others have noticed something I haven’t, I encourage them to step in and say so. This has been my take on it.
In the interest of fairness, I’m not a fan of Palin. I agree with your take, but that’s going to be seen as me expressing my dislike, rather than my rational aversion to involving her in this campaign. I have admitted mistrust of her, and I do believe that enters into it too. That’s still not my main objection here.
I made the same JFK / Johnson reference to her related to the McCain / Palin ticket, and what an election win would garner for her. I think you’re reasoned in thinking the same thing would take place with Romney. I don’t think it would be quite as bad under Romney. I think he’s smart enough to allow her to be his ombudsman with Conservatives.
McCain would have done his best to belittle her IMO. He’s an angry old ass. He hate’s Conservatives. I don’t see Romney in that light. He does disagree with us, but I don’t see him as a hateful man.
Others that have observed him longer than I might differ on that and be more accurate. Just sayin...
Sarah unites thinking people... even if you don't like her... you know that she makes sense on policy. Those that hate Sarah and love obama will never make it in the future obama has left to us. No matter who wins... no matter what the agenda... even if we do all of the right things... things will get better under a Conservative but we owe more money than exists in the entire world... and we have to shrink government, cut spending and taxes and get the revenue machine making profit and thereby raising revenue intake to the Fed so that we can pay debt down or we will default. Castroti and dependent parasites are never going to make it.
When taking advice from any of the daily rags, read and do the opposite
The choice of Sarah in 2008 gave a huge spike in the polls to dumbass McCain’s campaign.
The Left and their minions among the presstitutes attacked and villified her successfully.
Sarah’s only faux pas was her cheerleading for women for the sake of women rather than for conservatives. But now she seems to have tuned in to the right formula and she has learned how to handle the press.
To be a force in politics in running for office, Sarah has to find a Reaganesque voice and she seems to be doing that.
I disagree. Truth is THE great divider.
As you pointed out, she speaks the truth, and that has caused a great division in our country, those who can handle the truth, and those who can’t.
The last thing you've wanted to see over the past three years is a President Palin. Period.
I, for one, am hoping for a brokered convention that will eventually lead to a title like Mrs, President.
“Palins national role in the last few days reminds us why she matters”
Romney is still one of the good ole elites. Acknowleging she has ANY power would put him on the outs of the club. He still thinks tea party conservatives will be an easy vote because of the alternative. Boy, have I got news for this boy.
4 the list ping
Within the GOP-E, Sarah Palin is anathema.
Why? She exposed the corruption of the Alaskan GOP.
That cannot be forgiven.
She was good for 10 million votes for McLoser in 2008, and she was responsible for the Tea Party siuccess in 2010, when no one in the GOP-E would even align themselves with the Tea Party. Thanks to Sarah’s advocacy for the Tea Party and her advocacy for conservative candidates across the US in 2010, John Boehner is the Speaker of the House and not Nancy Pelosi.
To thank her, the GOP-E treats here like a leper.
My fervent hope is that on Novemebr 7th, regardless of who wins, a third party is established in this country for Conservatives, so we can make the GOP go the way of the Whigs. It is my opinion that the GOP in the long run cannot be saved; in the short run, it is the only vehicle available to us to save America in 95 days.
Sarah, conservatives, and the candidates that win elections thanks to her star power will form the nucleus of this new party and consign K Street Republicans to the dustbin of history.
They have had their time and failed. It is our time now.
I think the term would be "Madame President".
