Clint Eastwood ends speculation over super bowl ad with endorsement of Romney

On Friday night, film director and actor Clint Eastwood officially endorsed Mitt Romney for president at a fundraiser for Mr. Romney in Sun Valley, Idaho. Mr. Eastwood explained his support for the former Massachusetts governor by saying “I think the country needs a boost.”

After spotting Mr. Eastwood in the crowd of about 325 people, presumptive GOP candidate Mitt Romney told the audience, “There is a guy here from the world of acting, who has pursued his dreams in a very unusual way. He stood up to the industry and did things his own way.”

“Can I get Clint Eastwood to come up here and say hi to everybody?” the Republican candidate said to applause.

Mr. Eastwood greeted the candidate warmly and then took the microphone: “This is very nice to be here today, tonight, today. Let’s clear the smoke.”

The actor talked about how he first learned about Mr. Romney, commenting on how he thought Mr. Romney was too handsome to be a governor but looks more like a president.

“I was doing a picture in early 2000s called Mystic River in his home state,” said Mr. Eastwood. “At that time, Gov. Romney was running for governor. I said, ‘God, this guy is too handsome to be governor, but he does look like he could be president.’”

In addressing the crowd of donors, Mr. Eastwood said he believed the former governor would restore a tax system that would end the conflict over “whose paying taxes and who isn’t.”

“He’s going to restore a decent tax system that we need badly so that there is a fairness and people are not pitted against one another of whose paying taxes and who isn’t,” Mr. Eastwood said of the presumptive GOP candidate.

“It’s now more important than ever that we need Gov. Romney, and I’m going to be voting for him as I know most of you will be,” Mr. Eastwood said. “We’ve got to just spread the word and get the whole country behind this because it’s going to be an exciting election.”

After Mitt Romney retrieved the microphone, he echoed Clint Eastwood’s famous quote from “Dirty Harry” saying, “He just made my day. What a guy.”

Earlier this year, Clint Eastwood’s appearance in a Super Bowl Chrysler commercial caused controversy after some said his statements in the commercial were pro-Obama.

“It’s halftime. Both teams are in their locker rooms discussing what they can do to win this game in the second half. It’s halftime in America, too.” Mr. Eastwood said in the ad. “People are out of work and they’re hurting. And they’re all wondering what they’re gonna do to make a comeback.”

Chrysler denied that the ad was pro-Obama.

“The message is sufficiently universal and neutral that it should be appealing to everybody in this country and I sincerely hope that it doesn’t get utilized as political fodder in a debate,” CEO Sergio Marchionne told Detroit WJR’s Paul W. Smith.

However, other political figures fueled speculation that the ad was pro-Obama. Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod tweeted his support for the ad and former Bush administration official Karl Rove told Fox that he was “offended” by the ad.

The actor denied the allegation in interviews. He tersely told Fox: “l am certainly not politically affiliated with Mr. Obama. It was meant to be a message about job growth and the spirit of America.”

Clint Eastwood’s Friday night endorsement of Mitt Romney reaffirmed his long-standing reputation as a supporter of the conservative party.

No, get excited about electing more conservatives to the Senate. Get determined to kick Barry out of office, and get resolute about holding Mitt's feet to the fire.

Freepers are .025% of web traffic. Obama won by 6% in 2008. Pro or con, freepers won't decide the outcome of 2012. This is a pretty good forum for airing and batting around conservative arguments that the mainstream conservative magazines won't touch with a barge pole. However, I wouldn't get too het up about it one way or the other. We don't decide elections, except in coalition with the vast majority of people who don't follow politics at all.

To be fair, Clint is not “JUST” a movie star. He was also the mayor of Carmel, California. And he’s a very accomplished director as well.

I still don’t understand what he ever saw in Sondra Locke.

Nobody gives a damn if you get excited or not. People like you are helping the Bamaclown get reelected. Live in excitement with that for the next four years.

Egads. It has become so frustrating reading the news these days.

And I’m not talking about the endorsement. I’m talking about the typos. It seems that every single article today is filled with errors. In this one, the writer has confused “who’s” with “whose”. Sorry, I could stay silent no longer. :-)

Yep, thats me moron. I cant wait for obama to get re-elected. nailed me pretty good on that one. Did you think of that all by yourself or did someone help you?
I got a suggestion...get your head out of the glue bag and breath in some fresh air.
Geez...is this what gets you excited, some RINO actor supporting a RINO canditate....I guess the wallpaper in your house must have dried and now you are in search for things to keep your interest.

I like Clint, but I am not going to support someone just because a star told me he is going to vote for him.
I dont like Mitt.....but I am going to vote for him because the choice is clear..Mitt or Obama.....like choosing between getting hit by a bus or a semi.

I can see by your tagline that you would have a personality to crash the gate doing ninety-eight thinking you are preserving political purity.

If you require a candidate to espouse every belief you deem important and everyone else does the same, it becomes a circular firing squad.

Think of political elections as managing a major league baseball team involved in a pennant drive. If the manager needs a piece of the puzzle to win the whole shebang, he’ll get the best available player to do that.

After winning the World Series, the management will be looking for an improvement.

Democrats have beaten conservative’s heads in with incremental politics for ever. They have been able to count on stiff necks like you to sabotage your own interests because of “My way or the highway” mentality.

Yes, I know. I see them everywhere. Really sad. I've emailed the authors. Rarely get a response back. I suppose this is a result of Government Schools filling their heads with mush. There/their Your/you're Than/then mixed tense mixed voices etc. Just breaks my heart. Another fav of mine is the story where every paragraph contains one sentence. I see that a lot with TV news reporting. I guess that's because TV news is based more on looks than journalistic excellence.

Are you happy with mitt? Is he the best the GOP can do?
McCain was proof that the GOP has a mental illness.
As for standing in a circular firing squad, the GOP is better at it than I am. I am voting for mitt but it sucks
