Beijing tells US to 'shut up' over South China Sea tensions
The Telegraph - UK ^ | August 6, 2012

The Chinese Foreign Ministry's over the weekend condemned a U.S. State Department statement that said Washington was closely monitoring territorial disputes in the South China Sea, and that China's establishment of a military garrison for the area risks "further escalating tensions in the region".

The mosaic of rival territorial claims in the South China Sea has become Asia's worst potential military flashpoint.

Beijing has said its disputes with Vietnam, the Philippines and other southeast Asian claimants should be settled one-on-one, and it has bristled at U.S. backing for a multilateral approach to solving the overlapping claims.

"We are entirely entitled to shout at the United States, 'Shut up'. How can meddling by other countries be tolerated in matters that are within the scope of Chinese sovereignty?," said a commentary in the overseas edition of the People's Daily, an offshoot of the ruling Chinese Communist Party's top newspaper.

The main, domestic edition of the newspaper was equally harsh, and accused Washington of seeking to open up divisions between China and its Asian neighbours.

.....Last week, the People's Daily said China's "core interests" were at stake in its territorial claims across the South China Sea – language that puts such claims on a similar footing with China's claims of indisputable sovereignty over Tibet and Xinjiang in its west....

Guess this is what happens when the American president forgets to bow to the Beging Primier. Or did he?

No. It is both.

We are in hock to China. We have exported a majority of what used to be our exports - now they are imports.

That is a huge change. Exports were income. Imports are a drain on our income. A huge drain on our income. Now we do not have any income, we only spend.

We are going the wrong way.

For concessions on Obama pulling out of our Polish Ballistic Missille Defense agreement....we get the Russians stating they will build a Naval Base in Cuba.

Now China tells us to STFU.

Obama is worse than Jimmy Carter.

...and just as an aside...sure Chinese girl swimmers of 16 can out-swim elite men swimmers in legs of an Olympic swim meet. Go F yourself China.

“Unfortunately, that area of the world has tremendous strategic, national-security, and economic significance to the US, as an enormous amount of ship traffic passes through there on its way to the Straits of Malacca off Singapore. If China controls that whole region, they’ll have the world economy by the neck (more than they already do).”

Thanks for some common sense on American interests.

The isolationist wing of the GOP is more dangerous than Obama’s Red Commie State Dept.

“It isn’t a matter of “if” China controls what is essentially it’s own front yard. They already do control that area. They’re the Big Dog in that part of the world.”

Actually, China is just beginning to acquire a Navy that would give them status. The US is still the Big Dog in the Pacific and will be for the foreseeable future. We are a Pacific power and always will be as the Economic Expansion in that area, forces us to be.

“Australia should be worried, not us!”

Australia, along with the Brits are some of our strongest allies...we have Defense Treaties with them.

“Americans are just having a difficult time realizing that we no longer are “The Big Dog”.”

Well, until the Chinese can build and maintain 10 Carrier Task Forces, we will still be the Big Dog...and even then, we will have parity to defend the sea lanes against Chinese military coercion.

I always smile reading statements like yours.

We are no longer a Pacific Power, ‘cause we ain’t got no money!

What part of trillions of dollars in debt don’t you understand?

You are about 100 years to 150 years early on your prediction.

or maybe 10 years to early if Obama is reelected.

If you don’t think we are a Pacific power you aren’t keeping up with geopolitical realities and the balance of military power in Asia.

China can only defend itself and make an attempt to take Taiwan, which would likely fail... we would wipe out their Blue Water Navy if they ventured out from their coastline.

Quite the opposite: they hold our T-Bills as assets. If they want to sell them to harm us, the Fed will step in and print dollars to buy them back.

We also have the option of beginning to impose tariffs and other restrictions on Chinese imports that we can make here or get elsewhere.

They don't want multilateral talks because they know it will be the US plus everyone else against China.

.They would prefer to bully all their neighbors one on one.

If I owe you $1,000,000,000,000 then you have a problem.

Ok then, we owe them 10 whatever, they have our means of production and are using it to improve their military - still think it is their problem?

Sorry, that’s hyperbole.

We have high Debt. That is not bankruptcy and far from it as people still want to hold our Debt as a secure financial security relative to other instruments.

Like I said you are way too premature on your “bankruptcy” call. We maintain credible power throughout the world and in Asia.

Further, it is our domestic entitlement spending that is killing us now and in the out years.

Trillions of dollars in debt is what you term “high” debt? You are seriously out of touch with reality, my FRiend.

No! It isn’t hyperbole.

I do agree with you that domestic entitlement spending is out of control. That can be handled by returning to a government run on a Constitutional basis.

But we’ve allowed our military to be dragged into a security role supporting international conglomerates, all for the purpose of falsely maintaining global security that only benefits the most wealthy of this world at the expense of American jobs moved overseas and American lives lost in reckless misadventure.

Obliterating pirates and terrorists is a straightforward enterprise, as President Thomas Jefferson demonstrated two hundred years ago. Instead, we arrogantly launched into “nation building”, and are still bogged down in Afghanistan.

Haven’t you noticed that the poppy fields in Afghanistan are still growing and producing opium tar? THAT is not what I call protecting American interests.

Though it would seem we're being handed over to China on a silver platter.

Scene from "Spy that came in from the cold" movie with Richard Burton: He visits the communist-leaning girl in her apartment and she's got a peace sign on her bulletin board.

Struck me how that was the genesis and impetus behind the whole peacenik thing. While the average Joe & Jane were attracted to the emotionality of the message, it was promulgated in order to get the West to surrender.

Seeds of the Sixties’ “hippy” social movement (environmental protection - anti-capitalalism) and Earth Day celebration grew deep roots.
