Quite the opposite: they hold our T-Bills as assets. If they want to sell them to harm us, the Fed will step in and print dollars to buy them back.

We also have the option of beginning to impose tariffs and other restrictions on Chinese imports that we can make here or get elsewhere.

They don't want multilateral talks because they know it will be the US plus everyone else against China.

.They would prefer to bully all their neighbors one on one.
