CNN Smears Political Right, Labels Wisconsin Shooter's Racist Neo-Nazi Band as 'Far Right'

CNN associated a white supremacist neo-Nazi band with the political right-wing as it labeled the punk rock band of Wisconsin shooter Wade Michael Page as "far right."

CNN had reported Page's band named "End Apathy" as "white supremacist," "neo-Nazi," and as a "hate group." Yet it also repeatedly labeled it "far right" on Sunday and Monday. [Video below the break. Audio here.]

A Sunday CNN.com piece reported "neighbors say" that Page "played in a far-right punk band." A couple of paragraphs down the label popped up again.

On Monday morning during the 11 a.m. hour, anchor Kate Bolduan stated that Page played for "this far-right punk band called 'End Apathy'." She used the label "far-right punk band" twice more to describe "End Apathy."

On Monday afternoon during the 1 p.m. hour, the CNN headline read "Suspect Linked to Far-Right Band."

And later during the 3 p.m. hour, anchor Alina Cho showed pictures of Page performing in "what's being described as a far-right band called 'End Apathy'."
However, CNN also classified the band as a "hate group" and "neo-Nazi." For instance, correspondent Drew Griffin emphasized the band's white supremacist message. Page, he said, "was very much involved in white supremacy, in white supremacy rock bands, and in white supremacy festivals where these rock bands converge around the country."

A CNN headline during the 11 a.m. hour read "Sikh Temple Gunman's Ties to Hate Group: Was member of neo-Nazi punk band, 'End Apathy'."

Thank you. I studied Comparative Economic Systems, the Nazis were just to the right of the Socialists. The socialists owned the means of production the Nazis just controlled it while putting friends in ownership positions (kind of like Obama). One question though, why do mass murders always take place in "gun free" zones? Why never at a gun store? Why never at Winchester Gun Club where I shoot skeet about 10 miles from this shooting? I heard blondie on Fox report same thing as cnn. Tomorrow the lid will be off and that is going to be the mantra from all of them. They couldn’t wait to find a nut that fits their bill. Meanwhile, not much about the wacko that shot up the folks in the theatre other than his shrink reported it to the University police. I try to avoid watching either - Fox News' sibling channels promote homosexuality to children and Fox News promotes celebrity sleaze as news, but Fox News is just as happy labeling all kinds of people as wright-wingers.

It isn’t esoteric. The terms left wing and right wing properly belong in Europe, describing the contortions of Socialism as it developed there. Both Hitler and Mussolini began their Socialist life as good Marxists. As the illusions of Utopianism gave way to reality, they became Fascist, but still Socialist. Likewise many observers of the Soviet Union realized that there was no practical difference between Stalin and Hitler. No matter how you arrived at the collective solution and the death of liberty, it was ugly and deadly.

Conservatives in America have nothing in common with the left or right as it stems from European politics. True, Democrats can identify with the left in Europe, and Socialism everywhere, but how many Republicans share common ground with Nazis, new or old, or skin heads, or fascist? The closest America has come to that kind of collective control of race, labor and community were the plantations in the South, the foundation of the Democratic Party. Modern conservatism in the US is as far away from that thinking as it gets. We aren’t the right wing of the left. We identify with the Republicans of Lincoln, to an extent, but modern conservatism mostly identifies with the Founders and the Constitution, with free enterprise, individualism, private property and liberty. Most of us recognize the Christian influence of this nation, as did the Founders, and we recognize the importance of common culture and principles, but we don’t believe it is government’s place to determine what our religion will be, or tell us how we can or can’t worship, so long as we live in goodwill towards others, respecting their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. None of this is right wing in the slightest, even when the extremes of Libertarianism and social conservatism are taken into consideration. We are dubbed right wing because we stand opposed to the left wing, Democrats, but that is their aberration, and we shouldn’t concede to it. Socialists, Democrats, will eventually evolve into their own right wing, and it will have nothing to do with us.
