WXMI Fires Reporter For Failing to Disclose Ties to Atheist Group He Was Covering

WXMI has fired reporter and weekend anchor Jason Volentine after he failed to disclose his connection to an atheist group that he was covering.

In July, Volentine did a story for WXMI about the Freedom From Religion Foundation‘s campaign to have the image of a church removed from the city logo of Wyoming, MI. MLive reports that the Grand Rapids Fox-affiliate dismissed Volentine when it learned that he had ties to the FFRF, a Wisconsin-based organization that fights for the separation of church and state.

Rarely do I applaud the liberal cesspool that is local news coverage...the people involved seem to have no scruples.

The man or woman in charge of this MICHIGAN station, though, did the right thing.

I wish more tv stations required their reporters and anchors to be more up front and honest about their associations, beliefs, and leanings.

Someone posted at the end of the article:

“Guest -
They missed the part in the Mlive story where it was reported he was the one that actually brought the seal to the attention of the FFRF...he had the letter that was sent to the city before the city because he is the “complaining resident” Basically, he complained about the seal, then did a story on himself without saying he was the one that complained about it.”

Are ethics even being taught in journalism school?

If they fired all their reporters and anchors for not revealing that they were wild-eyed Obama supporting liberals, there wouldn’t be any news channels left on the air.

"news channels"

If they had cameras filming the 2008 post-election scenes in our nation's newsrooms, they'd probably show 80 or 90% of the inhabitants popping champagne corks and doing somersaults.

Looks like a gambit to get a network news division anchor job.

It’s called “Conflict of Interest” and there should be some serious penalties applied for trying to “cover” or not declaring the fact.

Journalism is to ethics as peace is to war.
