NEW YORK — New York Roman Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan is suing the Obama administration, but he's inviting President Barack Obama to dinner anyway.

Dolan has asked both Obama and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to attend the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation charity dinner on Oct. 18, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York said Tuesday.

Romney has accepted. The Obama campaign hasn't said publicly whether the president will attend, but Dolan's spokesman, Joseph Zwilling, said Obama has accepted, too.

The Archdiocese of New York is among more than 40 Catholic organizations, charities and schools that are suing over Obama's mandate that employers provide health insurance that covers birth control. Evangelical, Jewish and other religious leaders have joined U.S. bishops in pressing for a broader religious exemption, including for faith-affiliated hospitals, colleges and social service groups.

Well -- this is more like it. I knew there was something wrong about the first stories that came out last week that just had Obama invited.

May the scales drop from Obama’s eyes.

Any evangelization is good evangelization and Obama’s presence at the dinner may be just the opportunity.

GW Bush and Al Gore at the Al Smith dinner in October 2000. It turned into a high point for Bush. (note Ed Koch and William F. Buckley in the background)

Reckon that the Cardinal is planning to throw Holy Water on them to see which one screams the loudest?

” Reckon that the Cardinal is planning to throw Holy Water on them to see which one screams the loudest?”

Or which one spontaneously combusts

Sort of like Macbath at his banquet table. This disgusting Cardinal who would yet cover himself in blood.

Doesn’t matter if he asked Romney too. Obama is a pro abortion, pro gay leftist and should not have been invited. I hope he melts like the wicked witch of the west if Dolan sprinkles him with holy water.

I've had to remind some freaked-out people --- not you, or anybody on this thread --- to use their critical reason, not their acid reflux.

Think.

Here are the possibilities:

(1) Dolan has turned into baby-fricaseeing judas-priest and sees Obama as his role model.

(2) Dolan's brain has turned to bathwater and he sees Obama as a genial dialog-partner.

Or:

(3) Dolan is crazy-like-a-fox, knows Obama is too much a narcissist to turn down a ("historic!" ) dinner invite, and is luring him in to the most media-heavy charity event in the Media Capital of the World, to go all Jesus-to-the-Pharisees on his pathetic POTUS.

Who's the pawn on this chess board? And who's the bishop?

(Tim, don't let me down!)

Thanks for the sanity on this topic. I know 2 things for sure — Cardinal Dolan is no fool and no coward. I hope he fricasees Obama with grace and serves up a warning to Romney at the same time.

I love your examples — but, of course, there are 2 Bishops on this board and only one puny pawn (O).

Having dinner with the Cardinal is above Obama’s pay grade.
