The Glazer’s arent exactly popular in Manchester atm. due to the massive debt payments after their LBO of the club.

Have they been good custodians of the Bucs?

My NFL team will always be the Broncos btw :)

Yeah, but we’ve got The Beatles on our side. Although Paul wiggled his way out of it when asked whether he was an Everton or Reds supporter, we know he and John grew up as big time Everton fans.

Usain Bolt as an NFL wide receiver? That would keep the defensive backs up at night!

OTOH, the history of Olympic sprinters attempting that transition hasn’t been one marked with success. Willie Gault (Chicago Bears) was a hurdler who made the switch.

My Philadelphia Eagles had John Carlos & Tommy Smith in camp after the ‘68 Games (these were the “Black Power” salute sprinters). Neither made the cut.

We used to have a saying related to the 40 yd dash times (a good time is under 4.5 for a receiver). The saying goes “4.5 speed, 6 second hands”. LOL!

I have heard those rumours, though Paul had a great concert at Anfield a few years back :)

Anyhow the last of the time lords trumps the Beatles anyday :P

Btw, a Dr. Who segment was originally in the opening cermony, but was cut for time. Hope he makes an appearance in the closing cermony.

Check that... Tommie Smith was a Cincinnati Bengal (AFL). 1 year (69). Carlos stuck 1 season for the Eagles (injured) before going on the the Canadian Football League (2 seasons).

I was pretty young then.

When I was stationed in northern England in the early 70s, I. Was a BIG Leeds United fan, but since they’ve dropped off the EPL grid, I have become a major Liverpool fan. I’d always liked them and even went to Anfield and stood on the Kop. YNWA!

Silly me. I actually thought the Gold medals were made of gold. Instead they are just 1.35% gold, i.e. they are gold plated, but at the high price of gold that comes to about $350.00 / gold medal.

I can see that with the incredible number of different ‘sports’ that it would be too expensive otherwise Such as the gold medal for turkey bowling, frozen or fresh, that’s 2 gold medals right there.

Yeah. I think a lot of people underestimate the technical challenges of catching a spinning ball at speed whilst dodging tackles. And, that goes double for soccer.

Becoming an NFL quality wide reciever in most cases require dedication from an early age.

The only exception I think is kicker. David Beckham for instance would likely have been a hall of famer if he had “retired” in the NFL instead of the MLS.

We have two Norwegians who became famous in American football. One was Knut Rockne, the other was Stenerud of the Kansas City Chiefs. He came to America on a ski jumping scholarship I believe for college, but had played some soccer as a kid growing up in Norway. Spotted by chance kicking a a football on campus by the baseball coach, he was
invited to try out for the football the team.

The rest as they say.... is history :)

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled on a YouTube video about Gaelic Football, and I immediately was intrigued...it’s like the way I would have wanted soccer to be if I had invented it myself. You have to have the skills of a soccer player, and the moves of an NFL running back to elude defenders, the skills to catch the ball, and to drop kick either over the posts, or kick the ball past the goalie into a goal.

I was stationed at Menwith Hill Station near Harrogate. We had the only All-American supporters club in England. All of those guys you mentioned used to come up to our mess regularly.
