The Hill reports that U.S. defense companies Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney are preparing to issue layoff notices, which they are required to do under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act 60 days in advance of mass layoffs, even though the Obama administration suggested those notices would not be necessary.
Approximately $500 billion in defense cuts are set to take place in January, and companies that plan to layoff employees must send notices out by November, two months before the layoffs hit.
The Obama administration, realizing this would hurt them politically before the November elections, has argued that those layoff notices need not be issued for layoffs resulting from sequestration.

We still have the chance to throw him to the curb
Good more employers need to make clear to their employees that who you vote for affects your job.
A lefty neighbor (in public ed.) rants in his country accent against veterans and in favor of socialist causes, although his wife is in an office admin. job at LM. Paradoxes like that in most of the defense contract offices these days. Friends in contractors’ offices have told me that their coworkers are steeped in PC social pathologies. Maybe the other end of the default process will be good for us (much smaller government after that and a chance to build a healthier military force).

I worked many years in aerospace. The liberals have those companies on the run. They send gays/lesbians on trips to places like Disney World for gay conferences.
Lockart has printed 120k notices according 1lm employee i spoke to last night. They are planning a class action lawsuit upon receipt. He also claimed to have provided evidence to an SF lawyer about the CEO breaking Sarbane Oxley and corp bylaws concerning not promoting the bottom line well enough. He said the CEO was retire Jan 2 with the lawsuit hitting him personally Jan 3. Typical SF lib thinks he deserves CEOs salary!
What is the basis of the lawsuit.
It is a Federal Law that corporations have to give notice.
I guess you can sue over anything.
“Approximately $500 billion in defense cuts are set to take place in January”
There should be honesty on our side. It’s actually $500 Billion over 10 years. 50 Billion a year. Less than a 10% cut.
Yes, some programs will be and should be cut, but really, the hyperbole involved is fit for a leftist. There is still $650B in the defense budget (or more depending how the beans are counted).
There’s a lot more to be cut in government, to be sure, but let’s not go overboard with the whining here.
It is a federal law that you have to give sixty days notice and the Obama administration is pushing back on this.
“It is a federal law that you have to give sixty days notice and the Obama administration is pushing back on this.”
Well the defense contractors have lots of dead wood, too. So they are going to use this as an excuse to get rid of as much as they possibly can.
They’ll give notice, regardless of what Obama says.
When I worked for Hughes Aircraft when they were doing layoffs we had a saying that evolved.
An optimist is:
From:
Someone who buys a month bus pass.
To:
Someone who brings in their lunch.
It’s funny because its true!
I knew it was going down hill when defense contractors started competing to be the most minority and gay friendly. When offering medical coverage to gay partners and for gender changes was more important than designing a good weapon system, you’ve given in to the whims of the current elite instead of the needs of your real customers, the soldiers.
Well, I won’t have to worry about getting my WARN notice next year. I got mine last year...
