Psychopaths-in-Chief
American Thinker ^ | August 10, 2012 | James G. Long

Early in my career I worked for four professional-level persons, two of them military officers, who I seriously thought must be crazy, though all four were well-regarded by their superiors. Of these four crazies, one Army captain's career ended with a nervous breakdown when the colonel caught him in serious operational dishonesty. Later, a civilian logistics manager went through personality and career collapse while I worked for him.

These experiences were at first extremely distressing, as these characters were dishonest, wasteful, quite literally made people sick, and threw vile temper tantrums to the point of property damage. But usually not in front of superiors. Their actions were so bizarre that their behaviors eventually became sort of a joke for me. I got out of the Army and went back to school for an MBA with extensive side reading in psychology. I had the specific intent to learn why the Army kept crazy officers. I learned exactly nothing during the MBA program that was of use in answering my questions. My first two managers after grad school were exactly in the pattern, only worse.

This resulted in a forty-year quest for answers, and my first discovery was that many people have had similar experiences (but not four such experiences!); most people do not voluntarily talk of such matters, so you have to learn to ask the right questions. It is only recently that organizational psychopaths as identified by professional psychologists have come to national attention, and I have professional confirmation that the four individuals for whom I had worked did in fact exhibit traits typical of psychopaths.

Working for such crazies creates disturbing to devastating personal crises for the victims, including serious illnesses, especially if the victim is young and inexperienced in such matters. Since this type of experience usually happens...

I have world for and with three individuals who were undeniably insane. The worst of them, at times, seethed with such anger that he resembled Golum of LOTR. It surprised me not at all that years after I worked with him, he was convicted of murdering his wife but “sentenced” to psychiatric confinement. The good news is that there is no parole from that for someone so clearly ill.

He only had two crazy Army Officers? Must have had a sheltered life. I can remember looking around the room at a staff meeting and thinking that there were probably only two people out of the 12-14 Colonels and Generals sitting there that didn’t have obvious psychological problems.

Crazy people want to be in charge. I remember a friend talking about “high performing alcoholics”. I think it might be the same for psychopaths. They work their tails off so that they can be in a position where they’ll never be subjected to scrutiny or ridicule.

I think that a lot of the screamers are just lazy bastards who yell at people to intimidate them into doing the screamer’s work.

This is a very interesting article. Definitely worth reading. Here's one line from it:
Almost without exception, high-ranking politicians exhibiting behaviors related to psychopathy are members of the Democratic Party, based on published criteria[i] for psychopathic behavior.

So who’s going to win the Gold Medal, Bill Clinton or Barack Obama?

To stay at home wives: If your job is housewife, please listen sympathetically to your husnand if he says it is time for him to quit that job. He may be stuck with a psychopathic boss. Even if you have to move to a different city, you may be saving your marriage, your children’s health, your family’s life. If you force your husband to
stick it out with a psychopathic boss, you may lose everything. Listen and trust your husband.

Look up the book “Snakes in Suits” by Robert Hare, an expert on psychopaths.

Psychopaths aren’t just criminals, they can also be rather successful, at least for awhile, in business. One example, Bernie Madoff.

My favorite quote of the day because it’s so true.

I remember a boss I had, he was so overweight, he couldn’t do the job, yet he had his nose so far up his superiors collective rears, he survived, he was despised by others because he was lazy and just plain awful at his job, he treated others poorly and was cruel, yet when a supervisor position came up, he was chosen, I remember him asking my friend for a cigarette after he got the job and he said: “Ah, I love power,” and he laughed! What was sad and scary, he was just a cable guy!

So who’s going to win the Gold Medal, Bill Clinton or Barack Obama?

Tough call.

I'm usually not eager to make a diagnosis at a distance, but how do you reconcile claims that the "The Private Sector Is Doing Fine", 'You didn't build that' about business owners and yesterday in which Obama said, “Now, I want to do the same thing with manufacturing jobs, not just in the auto industry, but in every industry.”

The other had no qualms about teaching the Chicoms how to put satellites, and by extension warheads, into orbit.

My wife had a psychopathic client who I got to hear way too much about for far too long. Finally, wife had enough, and they tried handing the psychopathic off to the managing partner (she was a pretty big client). When he started losing sleep over this psychopath, everyone realized it wasn’t just a case of bad chemistry between this wench and my wife.

Ultimately, she put the work out for proposals again, and the wife’s firm declined to propose on it. This was a slap in the face to the psychopath, who didn’t take it well *at* *all*.

Oh, and the woman is divorced, and the wife still does the husband’s work, and has placed two or three people that have left the psychopath’s business. They all hated her.

Well, they have to look good. The system rewards any model of creation of a competitive atmosphere, one favoring psychos and workacoholics or work-hogolic. My doctor had a new nurse like that who started hiding records and puting things under lock and key, and he could not fire her because once fired, she would not tell him where she had hidden all this stuff. He eventually had to hire a consultant who watched her and completely redid the business and then was able to fire her.

So, in order to look good, they will be forced to work hard and show it off, and they hate it. But once they are there, the workplace becomes a nightmare of a political football, not even a place where people are supposed to work.

These people are compulsive like that, always on the attack. The weak or insecure is shrewed and always on the attack.

This is the type of person protecting the Homeland: nothing is accomplished, no real work, just a bunch of political football of hostility at the workplace. It’s like a dictator like Saddam, much more worried about internal security than accomplishing anything else.

Situations like these produce nothing and are huge waste of tax payer dollars into ineffective people who are paid bazillions, not including virtual lifetime pensions. These same people have 401ks that depend on the good marching of business, but it does not matter, they destroy the same business, not looking any further than destroying others around.

I worked for some seriously mentally ill persons who were not screamers, but just the opposite. They seemed incapable of emotion but did horrible things without remorse or guilt. That can be just as distressing as the screamers.
