WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate, the Romney campaign confirmed on Saturday.

"Mitt's choice for VP is Paul Ryan. Spread the word about America's comeback team," a Romney campaign app said, confirming widespread reports he had selected the 42-year-old Wisconsin lawmaker who chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee.

Query:

What time did Romney’s team send out their “official app announcement”?

I don’t have cell phone/texting, so I did not sign up for it. I am curious as to what time they finally sent it, given that the rumors were pretty solid by 9PM yesterday.

I like the Ryan choice

given all the possibilities, it is a smart choice

it does not pander to Hispanics (I wanted to keep Runio safe in his Senate seat where we need him)

it’s not an exact “social conservative” (won’t be automatically used against the ticket on that score by the left)

it’s not a lighting rod the left will easily demonize, anymore than they will demonize the whole GOP for the fiscal cleanup we all want

Ryan’s fiscal analysis and ideas appeal to most Conservatives, at least in some degree even if not
completely

as any VP choice must be, it must have a greater degree of positives than negatives - the Ryan choice does that

MY one question is, are we/will we be lacking some resolve in the GOP House caucus without Ryan there, and will the GOP keep his seat in the House

“Good pick”.

Bingo.

Almost all that needs to be said.

This election better be all about budget, out of control spending, debt and interest on the debt, the fed, inflation, interest rates, out of control deficit that barely pays for Social Security, medicare, medicaid, and other welfare payments, jobs, jobs, jobs, and letting the private sector loose to grow the economy.

...but I’m betting someone will make it all about Paul Ryan wanting to push granny over the cliff in her wheel chair.

If it will save the Republic, granny might even be a willing sacrifice.

If Obama wins, there is less than a 1% chance of America surviving as a free country...

True. But Obama can't get re-elected unless the country is already lost.

It does NOT matter who the VP pick is, the VP has no real power. The real power is in CONGRESS who writes and passes laws.

Then what ever idiot who is in the WH who signs it. The president is a cheer leader for his party in other words. The RINOS and the most corrupt demoRATS must be voted OUT of office to effect the changes we conservatives want.

Or they will continue to send Pork laden bills, and bills to strip us of our rights hidden in must have legislation to the president to be signed into law.

Government 101.

I have a little different take this morning: If this pick of Ryan as his running mate helps the weak, ineffective Romney, that’s a good thing and the thought of a Plugs/Paul showdown is exciting.
But as a WI. resident, I have a concern. We will be losing a WI.rep who is our pride and the House will have to replace him as chairman of the budget committee.

Veeps usually don’t do anything beyond the importance of attending openings of new DMV offices.
Of course, with Ryan, that would be a huge waste of talent.
The GOP and Mittens will get this...right..RIGHT?

Ryan is despised and feared by Hussein, who inside the confines of the WH is known for his temper and filthy mouth.(the F word being his fave).

You can bet O’s got four cigs coming out of each side of his mouth this morning and is throwing the ever present basketball at the TV tuned to Fox news.

Thanks - good analysis.

I believe the largest problems we face are economic, and both R&R understand the problem (in stark contrast to our current academic central planners).
