JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Even before Wisconsin sent Paul Ryan to Congress, he was meticulously carving a path that seemed to point only upward.

As a young Capitol Hill staffer, he impressed Republican lawmakers with his hustle and intellectual curiosity. He blended quickly with an elite crop of conservative thinkers. By his 30s, he was a congressman on his way to becoming a GOP name brand with his push-the-edge budget proposals.

Ryan’s climb reached new heights Saturday when Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney announced him as his running mate.

I like Ryan. But he is a part of the establishment. He is a go along to get along guy and won’t rock the boat. And VP’s don’t anyway so this is no big deal. Mitt is still just ABO. Big WOOP!

Conservatives do not need a “bridge”.

We need a real conservative as POTUS.

A “bridge” means two things.
First, Mr. RomneyCARE is in the wrong party.
Second, he will defer to the DNC on his next act.

Nonsense. Withing a campaign the nominee is a dictator. The VP has only as much influence as the candidate allows him.

The only bridge Romney can build to conservatives is adopt and FIGHT for our issues.

LOL. You must be kidding. Have you had a look at the Ryan Budget? This is definitely not anything like "go along to get along". This is confrontation with the Dems and the RINOs in the extreme. Time to reset you Paul Ryan Meter.

Good point. Why would he need a bridge unless he’s on the other side of the river from us?

Lord Mittless will get a small bump but then he’ll speak and it will evaporate and his surrogates will blame Ryan for hurting the master.

Ok, sure. Dont vote for them, and enjoy Obama for 4 more years.

Little tip: Posting satiric jpegs against him wont save you from what he has planned.

Its not our fault the GOP is trying the same tactic they lost with last time.

Tough crowd.

According to Alexa.com, this website commands 0.025% of global website traffic. Obama won by 6% in 2008. We won't dictate the outcome of the election. It's a fun place to exchange conservative ideas verboten on many websites, but a lot of the discussion is pretty academic, in terms of real world outcomes.

Very good move selecting Ryan

Now, as long as the Liberal RINOs do not try to sabotage the decision, like they still do with Sarah Palin....Ann Romney can run Rafalca all over the White House grounds in a few months.

Like I said I like the guy but we will both sit back and watch. After the election lets see. He will do what he is be a good VP for Romney. Romney will be just exactly the president the GOPe expects him to be and all will be well. (for the GOPe and the country) of couse zero will be gone so we will be slightly better off but only slightly we will have 4 to 8 years of obama lite.

I’d love to see some polling that puts Ryan up against Obama vs Romney against Obama.

I like Ryan but he needs to be on top of the ticket. That might make Romney palatable.

I agree he would be better than Romney. But he won’t “go rogue” He will be a good little VP for Romney and it will ruin any good in him he has to be a power chaser.

>”He is a go along to get along guy ...”
Yes, that is true.

>”Have you had a look at the Ryan Budget?”
Yes we have and it is not workable.

There are certain things in human discourse including our scientific method whereby an expression seems apt, positive and irrefutable. Except that such things are intractable, unworkable, impractical and quickly forgotten or lost. Ryan’s plans are all these things; 21st Century Gordian Knot Redux but without a sword to solve the problem.

Anybody with a modicum of education and experience can write a ‘plan’. And such persons can even suggest tantalizing solutions like killing a cancer in a petri dish only to find it ineffective in the human body. But to actually solve the problem requires great leadership and Ryan is a lightweight, not even a David with a slingshot.

It is a symbolic on-ramp to the Romney Socialist Highway, maybe a bridge like the on-ramps to I-10 in Louisiana. What is a symbolic figure going to do for Conservatism in a Romney administration? I voted for McCain because of Palin but realize now that would only reduced her effectiveness for Conservatism.
