WASHINGTON — Parents are urged to teach their kids to speak up if they witness school bullying in new ads that target an issue that top Obama administration officials vow to make a national priority.
long-term campaign featuring television, print and web ads was unveiled Monday and will start running in October. The campaign is a joint effort by the Ad Council, a nonprofit that distributes public service announcements, and the Free to Be Foundation, a group that includes entertainers Marlo Thomas, Alan Alda and Mel Brooks.
one television ad, two girls are seen bullying a schoolmate, mocking her appearance and telling her that nobody likes her. A fourth girl looks on but doesn't intervene.
"Every day, kids witness bullying," says a narrator. "They want to help, but don't know how. Teach your kids how to be more than a bystander."
Online and print ads will warn parents that their kids regularly encounter negative messages such as "you're worthless" and "everybody hates you."
ads were unveiled Monday at an annual anti-bullying summit hosted by the Department of Education in Washington, where lawmakers, educators and government officials convened to develop a national strategy aimed at ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment for students. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius addressed the summit Monday, and Education Secretary Arne Duncan will deliver a keynote speech on Tuesday.

I strive mightily to write about education issues in the most GENERAL manner possible. I can not, and have no, control over those who wish to take these extremely GENERAL comments about the state of education of our NATION in a personal manner .
Personally... I just assume that these people have a guilty conscience. If they didn't they would have enough self confidence to be complete satisfied about their decisions and would feel no need to personally insult me, call me an idiot, bully, vicious, nasty, or accuse me of lying, or being in need of mental health treatment. They would instead defend their position in a GENERAL manner about the state of socialist-entitlement schooling in GENERAL.
Believe me. In the early days of homeschooling, homeschooling moms and dads were the lightning rods for all sorts of negative opinions about homeschooling. It didn't bother me in the least. I saw the benefits of homeschooling every day of the week, and that was more than enough proof for me to smile, be happy ( as I almost always am), and calmly reaffirm my confidence in my decision.

It is Freeper policy NOT to personally attack others. I respect this policy not only because it is a Freeper policy but I live by this in my own personal standards of behavior. The owner of a restaurant chain states to a reporter of a Baptist newspaper that he believes in the traditional definition of marriage and the family. Would you agree that this is a **GENERAL** statement?
Does the owner of this restaurant chain have any control over the homo-fascists who choose to interpret this GENERAL statement about marriage as a **personal** attack?

Anyone just browsing through this thread is quite capable o masking that determination. You have no concept o how you have alienated so many people who would otherwise agree with your idea of homeschooling. Of course your well documented and self admitted hypocrisy don’t help you in the least.
Yet you just did that to me in a previous post, in addition to really ugly comments about my daughter - which are hardly your first. You have attacked her more than once over the years - Gabz has seen it several times. At no point have I (or Gabz) cast dispersions on any of the stories you tell about your children. I accept them as fact, even when they have an incredible feel to them. Yet, let me share something that doesn't jib with your experience, and you imply I'm a liar.
Her experience was called "Week on the Wards" and in that experience ALL 140 first year students witnessed 2 - 3 surgeries a day, as in they WERE IN THE OPERATING THEATRE, over the 4 day period. Those who had their shots/titers completed were allowed to 'scrub in' in many instances. Last week began her intense studying period. Her school has a compressed schedule - she will take her Step 1 in Jan 14 and will then as an M2 have extensive patient contact because her formal studying will be completed. Should you NEED verification, I'll be happy to freepmail you her med school and you feel free to call and check - as soon as you share your personal information with me. I merely **suggested** you might wish to clarify your story with your daughter, and gave extremely **CALM and RATIONALLY ***stated reasons for why you might wish to choose to do that.

So you think kids should only hang out with their parents and other responsible adults? What about all those kids whose parents are irresponsible? You know of no irresponsible parents and adults? Homeschooling may be great for a percentage of the population, but it is never going to be a reality for most. Many kids are actually safer and better off at the public school than they are at home. If you don't realize that then you must be from a world I am unfamiliar with. In my world far too many kids have crackheads for mothers, meth users for fathers, and drunks for grandparents. What do you propose with do to help those kids? Just who should look out for and teach the innocents kids that have been born to the dregs of society? Perhaps we can send a dozen or so over to your house.

I think I know what year my daughter is in.
But...Even then, I would doubt that she would be specially singled out from an entire medical school class ( or have the time) to scrub up to be an assistant to a surgeon. I am completely amazed that the hospital would allow her to do it given the malpractice aspects of the situation.
Honestly, if “day “ is what you mean then something is seriously wrong with this story. While it is possible ( although unlikely) for a third **day** medical student to be a distant observer in an operating room, NO NO NO responsible surgeon would let a person with no training whatsoever to get so close to an operation site that she would be assisting with anything.

First year medical students are busy enough just finding their way to the bookstore to get their books and supplies, locating their labs their classrooms, and adjusting to memorizing up to 2000 pages a week of dense scientific text ( no I am not exaggerating) to be preparing to assist at any surgery To get anywhere near an operating room table in the form of an assistant would take weeks of specialized training in that one topic.
Yet it happened. Many times with many students, in spite of your beliefs

And as for personal information, several freepers here know exactly who I am, have met me in person, are my facebook friends, and have invited my family to their house. I dont try to make enemies but friends. if I want to be a friend, I reach out.
Since some parents might abuse their children we should have NEA union workers present in every hospital delivery room. They could catch the baby, snip the cord, and deliver the placenta. The NEA union thugs ( oops! “teachers”) could then keep the newborns in 24/7 Newborn Schools. When the old enough they could graduate to 24/7 Baby Schools and then move on to 24/7 Toddlers Schools. We should especially recruit those government teachers from Wisconsin. You know! The ones who trashed their capitol building.
It's for the chiiiiiildren, you see!
As for homeschooling:
Homeschooling is the most natural and healthy way to rear a child to an emotional secure and educationally well prepared adulthood. It is too bad, but some parents are too lazy, too stupid, too materialistic, too ill-educated, too poor, too sick, too mentally ill, too preoccupied, too distracted, too undisciplined, too immoral..etc,...to homeschool.
These children will need to institutionalized for their schooling. It is a shame. We need orphanages, too, but no one is claiming that this is the best way to rear a child ( at least not, yet).

This is really sick and twisted. To equate the people working in public education to the likes of the above is simply outrageous. You have either been brainwashed or you are playing some kind of sicko mind game with the people here on FreeRepublic. One thing I know for certain is that the way you think of people, the way you speak to people, and they way you jump to your ludricous conclusions tells me that you most certainly are no Christian.
